The Cable provider in our area (was Excite, now is AT&T) apparently used these adapters rather than install cards in customers machines. My next door neighbor had that set up and constantly complained about it.
He is your typical home user and had no need for an ethernet card until broadband access came along. The cable provider probably saved a few $$ in installation time per customer (while losing customer satisfaction - we can't get DSL in our neighborhood and they knew it)
Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think BeOS can run on a G3 or G4 except through emulation like VPC. Apple never gave Be what it needed for that generation of processors.
Is this a preparatory move to changing processors? What if Classic becomes a true emulation layer and is no longer dependent on PPC?
I also wonder if future versions of OS X 10.x will boot on the machines that still do boot OS 9 or will there be a new cut off similar to the "OS 10 only on G3 or later" cut off?
