If one of these low cost set top boxes could get a good selection of games, I could certainly see that being a big differentiator (and possibly a blow to consoles).

Ha ha, no. Because if you're a game maker, you go where the money is, where people are already willing to spend money on games. Consoles. And you simply can't beat the quality that's already there.

Ah but most indie games and developers suck. The best indie games can/will hit various consoles eventually, all you have to do is wait.

And you still focus WAY too much thought on the "kid market".

    Consoles are for children./quote

in Eastern Europe, and the Second/Third World perhaps. But not in the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. In those places the majority of console players are adults, and has been since the 90's and the PSone. And those are the markets that matter, because they actually PAY for games, unlike Eastern Europe and the Second/Third World.

once had a little discussion with some Gnome 3 advocates including Rahul Sundaram, either here or on the Fedora Forums about Gnome 3. They'd say install this or that add-on to restore the functionality that was in Gnome2. I said there was a reason that the CDE/Win9x+/XFCE/Gnome2 interface was fairly standard, it's not perfect but it just works to get stuff done and to quit copying mobile interfaces for desktop use.

Then ol Rahul said Gnome 3 wasn't inspired by tablet/mobile interfaces.

"A central theme for several talks at this week's Game Developers Conference has been how to deal with the abuse generated by a small segment of gamers. BioWare's Manveer Heir says he wants the industry to stop being scared of challenging the most outspoken and vituperative members of the gaming community. His GDC talk focused on 'misogyny, sexism, racism, ethnocentrism, nationalism, ageism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, queerphobia and other types of social injustice.' He said, 'We should use the ability of our medium to show players the issues first-hand, or give them a unique understanding of the issues and complexities by crafting game mechanics along with narrative components that result in dynamics of play that create meaning for the player in ways that other media isn't capable of.' Meanwhile, Adam Orth, who became the center of an internet hatestorm last year after an offhand comment about always-online DRM, said game developers should make an effort to encourage their playerbase to behave in a more civilized manner."

Referring several times to gamers/players and gamer/player communities, NOT developers.
