What application does this? As an MCSE I have NEVER seen MS behave in this way. If it has to do with me just "not getting it" as a Windows user, I would hate to be the poor untrained sap using it. Making a 'clickable'script to package with your RPMs, to launch rpmadd, would not be a tough issue. You would still need to navigate through your CD or HDD to find your "setup" file. No more or no less difficult. If you read the MINIMAL amount of documentation to install on Windows or Linux with mainstream apps is a non issue.

RPMs make it hard on the end-user. They should use something less complex, like BSD's port system. Perhaps by a dynamic reallocation of dependency variables, user friendliness could be upsized. The freedom to mix and match package systems from popular Linux distributions is a tantalizing feature that most WinXP users would kill for!
RPMs are quite easy, type man RPM. You could use red hats RPM manager, that is easy. Or, just type rpm -i . Very easy. Mixing features between distros? Do it, have fun.
but to try to add a desktop computer to a TV/Stereo combo in the living will only complicate things, what do you do of a family member wants to piddle with the computer while you want to watch TV
That's easy you tell them to use their own computer. No true technophile - geek etc... would use their "web surfing, email etc..." PC for this. The truest geeks would sort of use their main for this, but only because this a perfect excuse to upgrade to a newer PC. You don't even have to admit secretly having wanted a faster chip!
How about letting someone know when they are going to make the slashdot site. They could make websites without the encumbersome banner ads, obligatory BIG images on every page. Then just maybe, I, with my T1 could actually see there page. Very unfortunate as I am truly interested in this piece.
Having to pull out a keyboard to do certain things, poor flexibility in IR remotes for PCs (and their integration to software), having to reboot Windows when it gets grumpy, and so forth, are the reasons why it's painful to get a PC as a regular part of your home theatre.
You seem to know the issues. Hop on your nearest Open Source home entertainment project, test drive, comment, maybe even develop! It's easy to post to slashdot what's wrong it's PRODUCTIVE to point out errors to those who will FIX them. Help out, enjoy.
Even the quiet fan on a PS2 is clearly audible in quiet points of a DVD or CD. No audiophile will tolerate this sort of interference
Now we have a reason to build our liquid cooled cases. Even our sig. other will understand!!!
You made a fairly unbelievable[1] claim and when I asked for evidence (the burden of proof being on you, the one making the claim) you are either unwilling or unable to provide it. So yes, I think you are likely mistaken. And you call me a troll. *yawn*
Come now, right in this thread I named a server and you didn't respond to that. Your proof was so burdensome. Yes, trying to get people to post e mail headers in my opinion is trolling for targets. But, then again seeing that you are defending earthlink you probably are unaware of any useful info in the headers so what harm....
I did not include headers in the previous message bacause I am not an amateur selling my companys info. Since you obviously work for earthlink I would hate to allow our e mail addys to be harvested so easily. LOL, troll
You are so right. I was making it all up. For a while I had no direct internet link for my server at home and up until about five weeks ago I was bouncing it off of vipmail.earthlink.net. Perhaps five weeks ago they finally stopped, that does not make them angels. So, nice of you to defend them.
Great when you are a 1337 d00d at home. The real issue though is when you are an admin for a solvent corporation. Draconian e mail becomes very tough. Karl
The company I work with is switching our hosting away from Earthlink for that reason. We send mail from our domain but its reverse lookup is earthlink.net...Some of our clients deny mail from them as they have open mail relays. Bad for us

This Nation has traditionally followed a policy of conducting international telephone, telegraph, and other communications services through private enterprise subject to governmental licensing and regulation. We have achieved communications facilities second to none among the nations of the world. Accordingly, the Government should aggressively encourage private enterprise in the establishment and operation of satellite relays for revenue-producing purposes.
Putting satellites into government control would have been the equivalent of "closing the source", privatizing them meant many people working on many problems...sounds familiar. Ike was obviously a visionary, wonder what his opinion of Open Source software would be?

Most biology is colloborative to a pretty high degree. Places pay for pertinent research and they pay for a well selected team if money exists, then those on the team have their own alliances to rely on etc... so normally there are several names to a project. I used to work in a USDA lab doing little piggy behaviour research at a NW Indiana University we worked with Drs from Pennsylvania on that project.
Opening it further would be of significant value to the world but taking competition ouot would be detrimental to their paychecks I think...

Some website designers are not aware of the difficulties of non windows users. A couple months ago I went to www.mancow.com and it was flash only. I e mailed a note to the webmaster and a few days later received the following:
An apology and explanation that no attempt was being made to alienate users
A request to view his NEW page the front page was graphically cool enough and then it linked to "Flash version or HTML version"
So, not everyone does this deliberately.
BTW As a courtesy (if his servers can take it) this was also a plug for www.mancow.com.
