Not only still going but going rather strongly. I play on system running majormud and we get a few new users ever 2 or 3 days. Even though i take remarkable abuse from the people around me about my MUDing habits ("How can you play if there are no graphics?") I think text based games require something that vastly underused and underated, your imagination. Being able to construct your own vision for how a realm looks and feels, based on the descriptions is often much more fun than being limited to view the game world only how the artist do. Besides Ive played at least for a few minutes a day almost everyday since i started playing. I would say very few other games have the replay capability.
Is there anything really wrong with wanting an escape? Where is the harm in losing yourself in an in-depth fantasy for a few hours, where things are simpler the enemies are clear and defined and there are definite heros you can cheer for? When Tolkien first released all three books as one collection he explains that he gets quite angry when his world is read into as a commentary of the times. People should take it for what it is an amazing story that leaves you cheering for the unlikely hero, the true and honorable king to be, and the wise wizard. I'm gonna go enjoy the hell out of the movie and lose myself for those three hours and when i get out of the movie it will not have solved the worlds problems but it'll entertain me.
Doesnt do wonders for those of us out there that are comp sci majors yet refrain from wearing "LAN Party" or "Windows Blows" t-shirts around campus. There are those that can meld into society and when we finally reveal we are computer science majors we are instantly equated with that fat guy you sat next in class, that hadnt showered in three days (conservative estimate) and wouldnt stop making UNIX jokes.
I would love to see a return to one of the best shows CN ever aired, Brak Presents the Brak Show, Starring Brak. It a rip off old variety shows with brak and a host of other cartoon characters singing wacky songs. They only played it a hand full of times, and the next time it comes on ill be ready with a good old fashioned VCR

He and several other experts recommended that the United States pay for milling costs. "It is highly unethical not to just cover the costs for milling," said Thompson, the Arizona professor. "Tell me how much it costs to drop one bomb on Afghanistan. Who is starving whom here?"
Let me get this straight. How much did they pay for that food? Isnt aid a goodwill donation to help out suffering fellow human beings....since when is relief aid an obligation? So not only do you want us to pay for the growing, harvesting, and shipping of the food, but now we have to pay for the milling. Well hell why not pay for the cooking of the food, and spoons to feed to people, plus we should pay for drinks to wash it down with. Give me a break it's a donation, you dont get prime pick of the US harvest because your government is incompetent. I've never seen the salvation army turn down clothes because they were out of style. I can think of lots of US programs that would love to have either $950,000 dollars (not even including the cost of shipping) or that amount of food to feed hungry people here. I think the US official got it just right "Beggars cant be choosers" but dont criticize us because we wont spend even more money because your government has their head up their ass.
Geoge Washington Bridge is $5 a way im pretty sure
That adds up to about 2500 over the course of a year

Its not an anger problem, its the fact that we are the police to the world. Ask the friggin Euro's to send some muscle in to back UN decisions and all the british are the only ones who step up, well of course those two french warplanes im sure make a big difference. Out of those 3,000,000 how many have been saved in places like Somalia, and Albania where people were getting slaughtered, and when the world decides to put a stop to it who's the first one in? We may have not been perfect in the past but its always our ass on the line whenever some other foreigners start getting pushed around.
