This is an old trend with out sourcing tasks to other countries. Mexico comes to mind right away.
Now to the point of this posting, I don't think that IT workers in the US are in dire straights. A company needs to have a strong management structure and proper processes in place. This limits to the large companies. Joe Blow Business can't afford to go out and out source their IT department to India. To face facts there are greater number of smaller business in the US than large ones.
These trends normally do die out since so many blunders will happen and difficultly of management.
Don't remember the future we're doomed to repeat it!
The way I see this maybe NASA/other space agencies should come up with a set of standards that outlines what are the attributes that make up a planet.
With a clear standard they're would be no arguments. Simple huh?
Anyway that's my 2 cents.
From what I have read, if it looks like Unix and behaves like Unix it is Unix. Well I'm not too sure about that. I have been writing code now for a good 8 years and they're sometimes only one way to do thing. ADT are probably the most common. So with what is stated in the SCO license, some of my applications are infringing on they're IP because I'm using a stack.
Come on! Anyway that's my 2 cents
