I was thinking of checking out A History of Violence but not if I have to sit through 30 minutes of brainwashing...

This is the reason I don't go to the movies anymore. I don't mind the trailers so much, but forcing me to watch commercials when I've paid for a ticket is sick. Same goes for DVDs with unskippable things before the menu. Is it really worth pissing people off just to make a few extra cents?

Re: showing older movies, a local independent theater (one which does not show commercials, I might add) recently had a midnight screening of Dr. Strangelove. It was packed.

Of *course* the RIAA doesn't give a damn what they're selling, as long as it's doing well. It's somewhat disappointing when the artist feels the same way.

    RIAA, meet your nemesis.

You know, sitting back and screwing over the artists while the money rolls in isn't the only thing that record labels do. There's a massive amount of work involved in promotion. If Apple wants to offer a very basic service that only involves putting your independently-created songs on iTMS (and hopefully a good deal on CD duplication), well sure, they could do that. But you'll be touring constantly just to get your name out there.

You act like you're entitled to use someone else's code however you want, just because it falls under the category of open source. Too fucking bad; you can't. Either you abide by the terms of the license, or you don't use it. It's not your code.

Great, good luck to you. But you probably won't make any money selling shareware apps to Linux users. Some of us are anal about open source purity, and some of us will just use the free alternative even though it's not quite as good. If your app is really good, it will be cloned and released on SourceForge.

Shareware games may have a role, though. They're much harder to clone, and will more likely be seen as worth the money. These are just my impressions of the community, of course; I haven't done the market research. In the end, your best option is to use a cross-platform toolkit and release on both platforms with few modifications.

Safrole (MDMA precursor) is also closely watched. It's typically impossible to find more than 5mL of it for sale, but it can still be synthesized from eugenol (extracted from cloves or cinnamon). Good luck to the DEA in controlling the sale of whole cloves.
