Adobe's Flash Player is not yet integrated into the stable branch of Chrome; however, the Google Product Manager Brian Rakowski says that it will be enabled when the final version of Flash Player 10.1 is released.
Ya know, I made an innocent, non-biased post. I tried to do it in such a way that I wouldn't draw an MS bash or a Firefox bash. But no. You couldn't let it go.
Care to make a friendly wager? If they ALL (you said all) implement them ASAP (i'll give them 6 months) and mean ol' MS doesn't implement them in the same timeframe, I will give into the/. groupthink and spend 6 months of my life posting nothing on slashdot except MS bashing.
However, if they don't ALL implement them ASAP and/or MS does implement them within 6 months, you have to find every post you've made bashing MS and apologize saying you had given into/. groupthink and are guilty of being close-minded.
No, this is not a troll, it's a legitimate challenge.
The great Dr. Yamulka of Kazhakstan Ministry of Health has concluded that women have-a the brain the size of-a squirrel brain. (paraphrased from Borat, don't downmod me for being sexist)
Yeah, but we all know the browsers won't implement new tags, or will only half-ass them. Even if they fully implement the new tags, it won't look the same across browsers. The days of the www being about content rather than looks are long-since over. We want our web pages to look good on any browser. This won't happen.
Not sure what hospital system you work for, but it sounds like some serious violations / fines are in their future.
My hospital system has an "IT department" of over 500 people, 18 of which are Network Engineers. Our IS budget is in the hundreds of millions annually. Our network infrastructure consists of over 8500 network nodes alone, supporting over 20,000 users. While we try to stay away from bleeding edge, we are known to be among the first to implement new technologies as they stabilize.
Sure, our NMS is out of date. But we installed it, not our vendor. The problem is that we have outgrown our NMS.
And I wasn't referring to Cisco's NMS, I was just referring to Cisco as a whole....and my website hasn't been up for years, by the way.
I'm still trying to figure out how my post was a troll... Oh yeah... I went against Slashdot groupthink again.
I guess I should expect to be flamed for going against slashdot groupthink.
My manager and I show each other everything. I saw the article, I sent it up to him. If he had any interest, he would tell me to check into it. It's as simple as that.
I'm glad you have such a nice, pleasant personality. I'm sure it gets you far in life. And I'm sure you're such a happy person.
Ummm.. Yeah, sure. In the real world, your website says a lot about you as a company.
I work in healthcare. Network failures means people could possibly die. Suppose for a minute that Cisco had the same problem. Slashdot link means can't get to the website. Suppose they were slashdotted at the same time as a network failure and I couldn't get into TAC to open a case? Then what?
So yeah. Burstable bandwidth, along with the ability to deal with problems like this as they arise and make the website usable again, means a lot.
Hmmm.. We currently use Spectrum and are getting ready to make a change. I just sent this link to the boss and he came back with, "Yeah, but their website is currently down! What does that say about the company?"
If OpenNMS wants to play with the big boys, they will have to beef things up a bit. Once you can withstand being slashdotted, then we'll talk.
I think you are generalizing too much. Sure, people who use their computer only at work for 1 or 2 applications will be lost when they go to another machine. Look at the bigger picture, though. It is 2006, not 1996. The average computer user knows, in general, how to use Windows, how to use IE, etc. The days of "sysadmins" knowing the ins and outs and everyone else knowing next to nothing are gone. There is a computer IQ middle class now, and it dominates. And guess what most of these people use? Windows XP. So yes, the statement is accurate.
Don't get me wrong. I used to be a Microsoft hater. Being a FreeBSD person, I used to also be a Linux hater because of the zealotry. In my old age, I guess I have settled down a bit and realized that everything has its place, including Microsoft. To the average/. reader: Wait about 10 - 15 years, you'll know what I'm talking about.:)
I can already hear everyone saying, "But Apple came up with the UI idea" or even "But Xerox came up with the UI idea." Be that as it may, it was Microsoft who proliferated it throughout the world and ingrained the idea of the particular UI into our brains. Like it or not, admit it or not, Microsoft has done a bit of good for IT in general.
With that being said, they have done quite a bit of evil too. But there's so many negative posts about Microsoft, I had to comment on the one positive post that I saw that wasn't just a "microsoft rules you lunix users muhahahaha" troll.
Ok, Mods, do your job. Mod me down for saying something positive about evil evil bad bad Microsoft.
Boy, someone has a financial interest in TiVo! You guys hate Microsoft but love news like this? That's a double-standard.
With that being said, Here is echostar's press release. For the lazy among us, they are appealing, and the court did rule that they did not act in bad faith, so hold onto your DVRs, they prolly won't get taken away.
XML stands for Xtremely Media-hyped Language and PHP stands for Perl-Hater's Platform. They are both very overused and should be ignored from this point on. Oh crap. I guess I get a free downmod for going against Slashdot culture. Oh well.
No, I didn't see it as a knock on my good ol' fashion midwestern way of life. I was pointing out that there are people who both "have a life" and who do stupid stuff like make Bender cases.
Seriously, Adobe, why do I have to reboot after updating your damn user-land software? I can even install some OS patches without rebooting!
*sigh*

No, it's at layer 2, not 1. Ethernet is an L2 protocol and is independent of L1 (RJ45 is an example of L1, as is Cat5e).
This is not "way down". It's 1 layer below IP.
Without a standardized transport, networks will be mass chaos.
Standards work. It's their job to work. Imagine if the electrician who wired your home didn't adhere to standards. Would you want to live there?
Slashdot has changed. If this were on the front page 3 years ago the celebrations would have been massive.
:)
Hrmph.

If it's all inclusive, call it the OpenGL Encyclopedia or something. The bible cliche is as old, worn out, and overused as SOHO.

Yeah. What he said. OpenNMS is now dead in the eyes of my manager for this very reason.

Mods on crack again. Comment is not a troll, it's half humor, half truth. Someone mod back up.
it's and its are completely interchangeable in this particular context. It's the only such case, but it is, in fact, the case.

First of all, parent is not a troll, stupid mods.

We call it "When Geeks Grow Up"
I have a job, spouse, house, 401k (actually 403b since I work for a non-profit), and kids.
But I would still do something like this. In fact I might just do it because of your post.
Just have to wait until the weekend, that's all.
I hate FOSS zealots as much as you do, probably more....
But....
Have you used Opera? Would you actually pay to use it? Me neither. That was my only point.
Brand loyalty. It's strong with Opera. It's also the only reason I can think of.
