Mearly getting arrested gets you put on the database for life.
They don't really need to make it compulsory, just need to arrest everyone, and thanks to the new terrorism laws they don't even need a reason, just say "under the blah anti-terrorism law". DNA check, thank you Mr Smith, you may go now! This would work well, as they could arrest people in small enough numbers so as not to swamp the DNA acquisition systems they have already!
Obviously there must be white muslims but I've never actually met one knowingly.
I used to work with a (white) guy who converted to Islam to marry. He had been a beer swilling goon, and totally anti-religion (mostly due to family pressure) but loved a Muslim woman. I sat next to him for a year or so and he never once pressed his religion but was more than willing to discuss it. Most enlightening it was too. From him I believe that the majority of Muslims are wonderful, peaceful, people. I also get the impression that it is some Islamic nations that use Islam as a way to control their population, and when a people all hate the same thing/country/ideology, they, almost by definition, pull together and love their Government. These people are being manipulated by their Governments to scream and shout and burn flags and all in the name of Islam.
For my part, I would like to see Muslims everywhere, but mostly British Muslims (as I live in the UK), stand up and be counted and denounce ALL the wrong doing that has been done in the name of your religion. Everytime there's an uproar about a cartoon or a book or some nobhead quasi-celebrity spouting off which may insult Islam, stand up and shout them down. It doesn't matter. It's not important. Live and let live. Pour a cup of tea on the fuses lit by the extremists and show them that "terrorist" behaviour is simply not acceptable!
... and all you disenchanted, disenfranchised, potential suicide bombers out there - get a grip. Virgins in the afterlife! Are you serious? See if you can swap 10 or 20 of the afterlife virgins for one willing participant in this life and suicide might not seem like such a great gamble! If it was such a great thing to do, you'd expect the top echelon suicide bomber recruiters to want to go first right? They'd recruit you and go off on a mission, then you'd recruit someone else and go off on your mission. The ultimate pyramid scheme, but it doesn't work like that. They only offer the honour to the newbies. It just all seems a bit fishy to me.
See what Nu Labour has done in the UK? They've encouraged pretty much all school leavers to go to university. This has a two fold benefit for our beloved Government: Lower unemployed figures, as Students aren't officially 'unemployed', and a host of graduates, unfortunately mostly with degrees in Humanities and the like!

Actually, my mental image is like much of Mexico - partially done. It's something I've seen lots of in Mexico, but just don't see here in the states - buildings and structures stopped halfway.
You see the same sort of thing in Spain too. A single storey building with the rebar poking out the top where the concrete supports would be for the second storey.
I believe in Spain there's some tax loophole where you don't have to pay something if the building isn't completed. Is it local/council taxes/rates perhaps. Anyway, if there's a similar deal in Mexico, that could explain it.
Now, call me old fashioned, but isn't The White Album quite an old album? Didn't they make a killing on it from the original vinyl, then again on tape, 8-track, MD, DAT, and now CD. Surely this is just milking the populace?
This is the problem the recording industry has got: The 'n'th pressing of some old album onto a new media ought to be cheaper than the original, as they haven't had to re-do anything, other than maybe shrink the album cover to fit a CD. What is the cover of The White Album anyway [googles] Hmmmm. OK. Can anyone guess?
So they accuse us of pirateering, and we accuse them of profiteering! It's a racket and they know it is. The whole screaming and shouting about pirate downloads et al is just a smoke screen in the hope we don't realise they've been shafting us for years!
As has often been said, they need to wake up and smell the coffee! Cheaper CDs in the shops - say £5 a CD - would likely mean people buying 3 CDs. Pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap!
Or wander over to sellaband where you can help unsigned artists get into a top studio by pre-buying their next CD for $10 (10 US Dollars), and you get a (small) cut of sales, Ad revenue, and downloads. Might not amount to much, but if they're as good as you think they are, who knows!
Pop into my Sellaband Shop for some free downloads right now, or buy tracks for 50 US cents for DRM free quality mp3s.
I put forward Yorkshire as they arguably have a better chance of making it alone than Scotland does, and are also pretty vocal about their identity. Essex, for example, aren't quite as vocal. And what is hold out country together? It's a good question. For my part I'd suggest that the Union (N Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England) are, by far, stronger together than any one (or two!) could be apart. Presumably, once they cut ties with the UK they would apply to join the EU. I just don't see the point in leaving the EU under the UK to join it as a separate nation, especially with the apparent moves within the EU to pass more powers to the EU Parliament?
True, and it will be really nice for the individual student to know they did well. But what use would the certificate be if everyone gets the same grade?
For the individual, you want straight A's in everything, but for society, you want a spread of marks indicating who's good at things and who isn't!.
I don't really see the benefit of regional assemblies unless, of course, you are a local politician and you can get on the gravy train! The Gov wanted regional assemblies so nothing would be their fault, but all more levels of beaurocracy will do is cost more money!
Sure, Scotland are giving free university tuition, free residential healthcare for the elderly too I believe, but is Scotland paying for it, or is it coming from the rest of the country? I don't actually know. Maybe they are raising local taxes to pay for it, and all well and good, but if they're taking extra monies from the UK Gov then we are all paying for it, and that doesn't seem very fair.
So what if Yorkshire wants out too then? They have a larger population and a higher "GNP" than Scotland and would be better placed to go it alone? Some twits in Cornwall want independence too? Independence from what exactly? Independence to get a handout from Europe presumably?
I guess ultimately, it would be cheaper for the rest of the Union as we'd not have to pay them directly, and they can take a slice out of our existing EU contribution.
It would always seem to be the Labour intention to make society fair, but rather than try and lift everyone to the highest level (which would obviously be difficult, if not impossible), they want to force everyone down to the lowest level, and it would appear that this is an achievable goal.
Obviously, not for the politicians themselves though, just all us lucky voters!
If the Scots voted for independence, we'd miss them.
I heard this before. Talk of a referendum in Scotland - but hang on a minute, why does Scotland get to vote and the rest of the Union doesn't? That's a bit like asking prisoners to vote on whether or not they'd like to be let out early?
If there's a referendum on whether or not Scotland should be independent, then all the affected parties, ie Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland should vote on it, as it affects us all!
Congratulating themselves for better teachings, that's bull, every year people get straight grades and you just get all the adults shouting that students are actually really stupid now and that the tests are just getting easier, trust me, at no point do they entertain the idea of the students being better taught.
I always thought that the point of examinations was to allow society to differentiate the more clever people from the less clever people. If everyone get's straight A's how do you know who's clever and who isn't? How are potential employers supposed to know who to hire? Why not scrap the exams and just award pupils with a certificate showing they turned up regularly for a few years at school?
In general, no one should EVER get 100% in an exam. The exam should be set in such a fashion as to produce a reasonable spread of grades from the pupils taking the exam - a bell curve. This does mean that for sciences where there is a "right" and "wrong" answer, the exam should contain some really quite difficult questions. Obviously, there are always going to be pupils who exceed expectations and they may well get 100%, but if all the numpties get 100% as well, what is the qualification worth? You'd actually be better off using the attendence record!
Flamebait? No, I was genuinly curious, but someone has answered me later on... it is because of the different datagram formats. This makes it unpossible for the two networks to interoperate.
Ah... OK. I think that maybe answers my question I posted above
So the datagram is different. I guess changing the IPv4 datagram to make it the same (or sufficiently similar) to the IPv6 datagram would be as much work as swapping to IPv6.
I guess this issue was never even thought of back in the day, but isn't it usual to start off a "structure" like this with some "version" field? Then the routers could read that first field and know what follows?
What I don't understand is why the IPv4 address space isn't mapped conveniently into the IPv6 address space (the first set of addresses... ie 000.000.000..... then you can run both "internets" side by side. The major intenet trucks etc could be upgraded first (as required or as h/w gets old and needs replacing anyway), etc, until it is your choice if you want to see or use an IPv6 address, if you do, you just need to upgrade your end, and if you want to wait a bit, that can be your call!
Internet Radio, iTunes, hell, even mySpace has some tunes on it you can listen too. Perhaps not as well organised as Sellaband where an unsigned artist can put up some of their wares and punters who like it can "pre-buy" their next CD for $10 and when $50,000 is raised they get put into a top recording studio with top producers, etc. The punters then get a copy of the 5000 Ltd Edition CDs (one for each $10 part they buy) and they get a share of revenue from selling the ordinary CDs and from Ad revenue from the site which offers DRM-free downloads of the tracks for 50cents a piece, with 3 free (as in beer!) tracks.
Two artists already have their CDs out Nemesea:- Produced by, amongst others Tony Platt who worked on a lot of early ACDC Cubworld:- Produced in the Bennet Studios in NYC by, amongst others, Kiyanu Kim ... and a bunch have theirs in production or nearly ready... indeed Second Person's CD comes out next week.
My original post was thinking about charging (as a tax free perk) at work, and my thoughts there were mostly for the big out of town business parks, but why not be able to plug in to a parking meter! I also don't really think you need coins, as the article referred to the cars as a computer on wheels, so why not have each car with it's own internet address (IPv6 anyone), so plugging in just charges your account somewhere (paypal, etc).
Also, whilst we're at it, what about at the supermarket. They're always trying to find new ways to pull people in, and why not a free hour of charging while you shop. They might also be well placed to cover their roofs in photovoltaics and maybe put up a windmill (the Sainsbury's just north of Kingston in the UK has a windmill already!).
There'll likely be a big cost to setup all the infrastructure, but it sure would make city living a bunch less grimy with fewer car exhausts.
... and before anyone says they need their SUV/Pickup/Van, by all means, have one of them too! Horses for courses. If yer driving 250+ miles, take an ICE vehicle. If yer popping down the shops, or tootling off to work, why not take the electric car?
What I'd like to see is the Goverment doing something useful for a change (in the UK at least) and allow companies to charge their employees electric vehicles for free (ie a tax free perk) - sort of an green update on the old company car scheme.
So, drive 40 or 50 miles to work and plug the sucker in. It charges all day and you drive it home. A small overnight boost will get you back to work again!
Doing something like this would be a useful kick-start to the technology, and once it becomes more commonplace it should also get cheaper and drive the technology forward!
Well, back in the good old days Sir Clive Sinclair invented an Elecric Car called the C5 and it used a washing machine motor, so a service just involved calling out the local washing machine repair man!
I don't suffer from paranoid delusions so I know that the risk of that data being abused is very small.
Remember the Paddington Train Crash in 1999? Pam Warren, one of the survivors, was pretty vocal in her damning of the Government for their part in the incident (bad track/signal maintenance as I recall?).
Stephen Byers, the then transport minister, sent an email around Labour's Millbank headquarters soliciting personal information about Pam to try and discredit her. BBC Article : Byers in another spin.
... and you trust these jokers to not use any and every tool at their disposal to remain in power?
The Police can already gain access to the information if there is a need, but having everyday access will not stop these sorts of incidents. The Doctors in question were quite legitimately able to drive into London and no one was watching them. Had they been under observation, the Congestion charge info would have probably added very little anyway.
I understand the Police asking for these sorts of powers, but it should be up to the Gov. to tell them NO!
There is no room in their business model for people who like x type of music and other people who like y.
Last August a bunch from Amsterdam started Sellaband and now there are 4500 or so Artists registered and 5 have hit the target and are recording and 2 more have their CD out.
The Artists come from all over the world, from all music genres, and as a Believer you get to have a listen and if you like what you hear you can buy a Part in the Artist for $10. If you change your mind you can take your ten bucks back until the target of $50000 is raised (5000 Parts) when the Artist gets put into a top recording studio to make their CD. The Believers get a Limited Edition copy of the CD (only 5000 printed) for each Part they own, and a share of the next year's revenue from sales of the ordinary CD, and from advertising revenue from downloads - the album tracks are available for download, 3 of them for free, and the rest at 50cents a piece for high quality, DRM free, music!
Not all of the music is to my taste, but it's still great to listen to new things!
I have "Parts" in one of the Artists who has completed his CD... pop over and have a listen if you get the urge, and my tag below is another chap who's on his way to the $50K!
