These icky things'll probably only be placed where 'high-class', rich, 'IT'-snobs, bisuness creeps circulate. Maybe like airports et cetera. You know those people with suits and cellphones, laptops with Windows 98 on.
What's most scaring about some of the threads is people minimize these kind of issues to "i already knew that" etc without saying what they feel should be done about it.
Where I live (Sweden) I'm sure that something similar to this is being developed, discussed etc in high government, and the EU is probably accelerating stuff like this forward - but I refuse to accept the direction this world, and all it's so called "technological wonders" have taken us in - I want to come as far as possible away from 1984 - but can this be done without losing all these modern conveniences?
I think so, and I can't understand what goes on these minds that develop and promote this technology - or rather the ones that put it to this kind of use. Would someone I know accept to in their employment implement this? Or is it that I live in a totally naive country where privacy and total freedom expression is still held in high regard?!
Let's hope not... but then again, what couldn't come out of the grand land of the "free".
There you have your so called freedom.
All these people claiming to know all about it, and seemingly accepting it - I feels sorry for you, having come to accept and, maybe now living, in such a reality. Maybe I do too... if so, I'm scared.
"what the hell is the matter with the people on this planet? have all gone insane? the stigma of industrial progress killing us over and over again" (bad religion)
This has a bad side to it, GLide is a proprietary API, and should not be pushed forward in any way, not even by emulation, in my view. All GLide games should be eradicated. Let's forget them. 3dfx: move on, get a grip, write decent OpenGL drivers and I'll like you, a bit.
This is good. I just hope those lazy vendors (most of them) get their thumbs out of their asses and hop on this. A single driver for multiple UNIX's, how hard can things get?
Hmmm, I still love those games. Not much compares to the feeling and soul those games had, and have. Nothing is more fun then to spend some hours infront of any xQuest game, or Larry btw, or to have tons of fun in PANG!
Although some 3D shooters might be fun for a while (you're amazed by those gorgeous graphics, and the ultra-cool sound effects), they most oftenly tend to be very plastic and superficial (Half-Life is a exception).
grrr. i'll go and filter out these kind of news.
KDE is fat and ugly. GNOME seems lightweight and effecient. But both still suck.
KDE in my eyes are a fat slow cow and gets milked with those icky metalthings.
GNOME is a gepard, that has a problem with its one leg, so occasionally it falls. And some of the spots on it are missing.
But whoha, I wouldn't want an entire environment. I'd just use Window Maker and sometimes use the GNOME apps, and maybe even some KDE ones.
And growing up means getting a arrogant attitude, buying lots of useless hardware?
Uhm... Windows CE CAN be used for the DC, but for the most games Sega's own OS is used, which DOES use Direct X 5/6.

Proprietary API's. Yummm.

bleh. it's getting more and more like '1984' by the day... and no one cares.
