Correct in my opinion too - I am one of millions of South African's wondering why we have spent about R60 Billion (US$ 7 Billion)on fighter aircraft.

Basically governments act like a bunch of 'boys with toys' - just their toy have to be big enough to compensate for their small willies and it is always easier to spend someone else's money.

  2. "business men" only pretending anyway... on Britain's CAA Considers Laptop Ban on Commercial Aircraft · · Score: 1

Whenever I see a business man "working" on a flight he is usually just trying to look cool and appear ultra productive - which clearly he is not or the work would be done already.

  3. "steal a child's meal" - hey what? on Wireless Pedal Power Computing in Laos · · Score: 1

I think AC is missing the point somewhere. The main reason food is scarse (and your beloved childen are eating cold food) is because the USA spent so many years bombing Laos in the name of freedom. Then again maybe you are right - better not to "let" them have Internet access or they may get to see how the first world lives.

Is this not a rather narrow minded and arrogant view - that only people in first world countries have the maturity to handle Internet access?

  5. Microwave link - cheap and easy if you know how... on Wireless Dilemma at Newton's House? · · Score: 1

You could use a microwave link between each builing. All you need is a computer each side, each with a microwave card (Samsung makes them) and a small dish (which plugs directly into the card)which can be mounted inside a window. There must of course be line of sight between the dishes. The whole solution should not cost more than a few hundred $ per link.
