Yea and why did we bother wasteing the time and money it took to learn to fly, we could have bought more cars/gas with that money, and speaking of cars do you know how many horses we could have fed with that R&D?
This is a new and exciting field which could someday make space travel practical (for no toher reason than you can store alot of energy in a small area). The more you do it the better you get at it, and the cheaper it gets.
By the way, hows that flat world working out for you?
But I think it is best used to introduce kids to programming, in the 4th grade when I played with it at school I had no idea that many of the problem solving skills I was developing would be useful in later life (not like algebra;)...
No I did understand, I also understand the state of the industry. Right now cable companies are in a bad way, and you dont mess with your customer base now.
Large Cable companies have very sufficent testing methods for back end, front end, and end user issues. If this was for a limited number of people I could see it *MAYBE*, but in a marketpalce where DSL/Dish Networks are gaining market share every day you cant screw with the customer.
If we want to do an update which involves taking order q's down for 5 minutes in the production environment we need approval from the VP of our department, and the RVP for that corp.
I find its really helpful that I let all of my users know that if I have to I will reimage their computers, thus forcing them to store all data on the NFS/Samba server.
Doing this not only makes recovering from a major virus hit a matter of takeing one PC off the network resotre the standard image (than update that image to be safe, and image the 'new' standard image), and resotring that image to users pc (or if you have the $$ the terminal server you should be using). This policy also protectes you from users who spill soda/coffee/gasoline on their desktop, and makes it easy to recover data a sudden ex-employee decides to delete/alter (if you back up your server).
~100 wow you had it good, Every PC I had had got it (at the time 120 users), not to mention my (at the time) PC servers. Red hat should through Nimda a party it gave me the leverage to move all data storage to a their platform..
I still have a few troubled users who bring in floppys from home that are infected but as we dont use IIS and all of our storage is SAMBA/NFS is more of a novelty.
Whats really funny is another department of $Employer recently sent us one of there PC images to approve and it was loaded with nimda..
Unless you have used it you cant tell if 'the advantages of linuz' are lost. The power of Linux lies in the terminal (imho) the rest is just window dressing. How is this interfce any different than gnome/kde? The button looks different? no default pager in the 'start bar'?
If its as stable as Linux, if it offers a terminal shell you have all the advantages of linux.
I am not to fond of M$ either, but their interface is very simple, and this is what jon and jane doe are looking for. Linux would/has do/done well to borrow very selectively from the M$ interface (if you dont like it put fvwm on;) features like the 'start' button have worked their way into the linux world with desktops like KDE, Gnome, Enlightenment, dont get pissed if I did not put yours here. I use FVWM all the time not, but if at one point I could not have an OS that looked somewhat like windows I would still be on windows. It was not until I learned that all you need is knowledge of how to use the terminal I moved to a less busy interface.
So I say lets give 90% of the computing world what
I guess what I am saying is not specific to this distro (a distro release is hardly news unless is something like Mandrake, Redhat, (insert market share measurable linux here), or an innovation.
I highly doubt that, I work in Cable software development and I can tell you that you *NEVER* test on a production system, especially in a market as large as NY..

2) Using the term "woman opressing men" to try and belittle someones agrument of when life begins is lame, its old, its sorry , and its tired. People have been using that for so ling it no longer even effects me.
3) And back to when life begins, I believe it begins at conception so for me to *NOT* be out right against abortion would make me a totally morally depressed person..

But at the polls the thousand votes is worth more than ten thousand times the thickness of your wallet. If people educated themselves about our government and voted the huge 'corporate evil' (which btw provides a mojority of the jobs in this country) would not matter.
Dont get pissed a corporate america because many dont vote or always vote their pary line..

Umm no we are a represenative republic. I am so sick of people blaming corporations for our problems. The number of average americans outnumber the number of corporate elite about ten thousand to one, if people educated themselves and voted it would not matter how much $$ corporate america had..
I am so sick of morons like you trying to speak for conservative christians. Am I against abortion? yes. Why? because a life ends it has nothing to do with a woman or her place in society if she want to have a kid out of wedlock, her decision, if she wants to sleep around on a husband/boyfirend, her decision, if she wants to kill a baby I dont think that should be allowed, we dont allow the murder of 1 minute old babies (aka prom-mom) but if a baby is a month from being born its ok.
Disagree with me on when life begins, but dont you dare try to paint me as a wife beating, woman opressing man because your argument is that weak.
No what my firends story shows is the need for joe average to have a desktopsolution which is similar. In her words "well this is nice but what if I sit down at someone elses linux computer".
Even if I got her to learn the default Gnome, and to like it what if she sat down at a computer with just KDE? I think often Linux users overestimate and underrate the need for a desktop to be close enough to another that it is usable with little to no learning curve (keep in mind most of us are not geeks/do not work with computers).
As for FVWM I use it because I find it has just the right ratio of ease of tuning (I use 1.24) with functionality.
This configuration is a great idea, I see a great deal of pissing and moaning about the fact Redhat has applied their own theme to KDE/Gnome, get over it its a theme.
If you dont like it change the theme yourself, or dont install it with the distro go out get the source and compile it yourself.
I love linux on the desktop (I use fvwm), but when I tried to set it up for a friend she went nuts becuase it was too much of a change for her. Linux has come far enough that there is no excuse for this, I spent about a day and a half tweeking it (Gnome) for her and now she loves it.
Very good points but I think RPM's are better for the casual user (note I think of casual as inexperienced). RPM's give a person new to linux to set up apps that actually make their computer useable, and makes a transition from windows a little less painless..
Tries for GWB to get masters =1, Tries for Al Gore = at least 2, (and he failed out of divinity school, cmon how do you fail God school??)

I had to put that in there because even with devellpers you never know ;). I had a developer spill half a bag of domino sugar *INDISE* his computer....
