    Democrats control the agenda, and dont forget you only need 40 folks to stop a vote altogether so a majority is not.. To be sure the Minority party can and often has stoped things cold. I give you 1993: Hillary's first attempt to nationalize our health care system with a democratically controlled house, senate, and white house. Phil Graham (R-Texas) stopped it dead with the battle cry 'It has been said that to oppose this bill is political suicide, well, this bill will pass over my cold dead political body' The minority Republicans stopped via procedure the bill from passing and it died there..

    But why is it that the default is taxation unless a bill is passed to ban taxation for some time period? Since when did the government gain the right to claim our money by default?

    Its for the Children, some progressives wont be happy until we are all servants of the state...

    Any government strong enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to steal everything you have.

    Well it happens thats why committees have such power in the legislative branch. The Dems used it to prevent Judges from getting a vote on the floor they would have overwhelmingly won. The republics will pull similar tactics when it suite them..

    Most of all they get used for grandstanding 'ie Hillary calling a General on the carpet as untrustworthy'

    Despite the media and political parties attempts to make it otherwise *this* is not an election year. The election is 13 months away and while many are focused on the presidential primaries most house and senate races have not even had all potential candidates throw their hat in a ring.

    I wish to God that the trend of pushing 'election' coverage further and further back will reverse itself. We have many US senators (Hillary, Obama, McCain) some Governors (Richardson), and some congressmen (Paul) all spending more time searching for their next job then doing the one they have right now! This is excusable in the 8-12 months leading up to an election but down right sickening to have started in april...

    Hell Fred Thompson was catching flack for not announcing in June (17 months before the election and 8 months before primaries)

    Yea that would be like saying that when we put more co2 into the air it gets warmer... Seems to me that in the 60's and 70's it got cooler despite rising c02. Geez, how dumb can you be.

    CO2 has always tailed global temperature change, not led it. This makes sence because as oceans warm they will release CO2 and as they cool they will absorb it..

    Youre right, thanks for the correction... What I was attempting to say was when we act in haste and with strong emotion we often make things worse..

    Again, thank you so much for the correction... Though the thought that the unibomber was not a reactionary seems some what absurd to me (in that his cause was on the left) but Timothy McVeigh was a reactionary (because his cause was on the right)

    ok so the 'water vapor picture' is not clear but the fact the earths oceans can with a change a few tenths of a degree soak up or spew out more co2 than man can produce in a decade does not render co2 questionable? H2O is a bigger factor in global warming than co2, its a fact... They both happen to be naturally occurring gases one just has a worse publicist..

    Funny where did I deny global warming? I simply dont believe its entirely or even mostly anthropomorphic. The ones who sell movies promising a 20 foot rise in sea level by the year 2100 are the ones with an ulterior motive.

    There is room to disagree and work towards a founded understanding. My problem is that we have seen temperature fluctuation's throughout human history (we have in human history had england under a glacier and england covered with vineyards). I dont think *everyone who buys whole sale into 'its the co2' has an ulterior motive, just the folks who play that up for publicity (Gore)...

    Are their folks on the other side with ulterior motives? sure am I one of them? no..

    Well we have a choice dont we:

    We can all go with CFB's like Gore says and put more mercury in our landfills

    We can try ethonal only to discover that (1) it uses more greenhouse gases and (2) the rise on staple crop cost are more likely to cause war and resource fighting than global warming itself.

    We can all drive hybrids, never mind they are one of the *least* recyclable cars and no long term plan has been put into place for how to deal with the oodles of battery acid..

    Please understand by long term I mean a decade to study thing further, when you become a reactionary for almost any cause you will, in the end, do more harm than good..

    Right.... The lesser greenhouse gas (both in amount and effectiveness) being the thing driving temperature is not absurd but the sun doing it is absurd? Lets wait and see what happens over a protracted period of time... I'm not sold on one theory or the other but to swear off either at this point it the equivalent of a blinding religious crusade.

    Well, the only good thing that can be said about Clinton is that she's far better than any of the Republican candidates. At least she seems pretty reluctant to use torture

    Well she was in the last debate anyway... The windows of change blow frequently and hard in Madam Hillary's positions.. She seems to have a green light to go left so look out for her to abandon more of her 'centrist' ways to appeal to the electorate.

    The Republican field has no respect for the Constitutional that has made us what we are for the past two hundred and some years.

    While this is for the most part true I think your giving far too much slack to the left who things the 10th and second amendments were suggestions, and bad suggestion than that. The left that thinks the first amendment should not apply if what you say is 'hateful or offensive'. The left that thinks that your private property exist only so they can take it and set up entitlements (but for political purposes they will call entitlements 'rights')...

    There really are few places for anyone who loves the constitution to go..

    Oh come off of it, the left loves the 'have you no shame' moment of the McCarthy fiasco because its apparently wrong to ask someone if they are a communist but its funny to call a US general a traitor.. Personally as someone on the right I thought the 'google-betrayus' post was hilarious and I submit to you its far more likely that someone who agrees with move on modded it down because of all they political hay the right has been able to make out of the whole fiasco..

    LOL! well everything hinges on the 'co2 is the main temperature driver' if, in fact its not (lets say solar radiation) and the oceans cool *even a bit* what happens to the level of co2 in the atmosphere? thats right ocean surface water will absorb a good deal of it. This is why CO2 historically *lags* temperature changes

    For what it's worth, at the time the article came out, he was already participating in his power company's "green energy" plan

    Yup carbon credits, the secular equivalent of indulgences...

    Its ok to sin if you're rich enough to pay for it... Its ok to be wasteful if you can afford solar panels... And its okay to tell people in the third world to have smaller families while you and your wife are making four kids because you are a rich person who speaks out on the environment...

    Were calling CO2 a bad gas despite the fact water vapor is a far more contributory factor to the 'greenhouse effect'. Were pushing CF bulbs because they are more energy efficient despite the fact that they contain mercury. As a father of two young kids Im uncomfortable having bulbs in my house which require I carefully air out the room, keep them away, and be sure to clean in a prescribed manner. This says nothing of the effects of *millions* of CFB and the mercury in them making their way to the dumps. Were pushing Ethonal which (1) raises the price of food in the US an Mexico (food which is of course a bigger part of the budget for the poor than the rich and (2) Actully produces more C02 per unit of energy than Gasoline. Were pushing Kyoto which holds no account over the two fastest CO2 producing nations in the worlds (China and India) Now All Gore gets the Nobel prize for his docudrama so riddled with 'small inaccuracies' and 'deceptive tactics' that in the UK its been labeled as political propaganda (and rightly so). Still the Nobel prize has lost allot of luster after they decided to give one to the founder of an organization that promoted suicide bombings against civilians, Gore is in good company...

    ... is pretty worthless; in 30 years our tech will have, hopefully, seriously evolved. In 30 years the earths political systems and power balance could be totally different. If you cant do it in ten years change your focus to something else. I think this is a great idea but giving something this much time is the ultimate form of procrastination. There is *no* reason they cant have this well in the works in a decade. If the money is not there well then put it on the shelve and come up with something people will pay to research.

    They turned off his mic and tried to escort him out by taking his arm, at which point he resisted. The amount of force used at the time when he resisted was not anywhere near unreasonable, he could have just walked out then but he physically resisted..
