In a production environment, one sometimes needs to be able to do things to the machine in "BIOS" mode, like change partition/mirroring/raid settings on disk controller, or have machine boot from alternate device for upgrades, etc.
Very convenient to be able to do such things remotely....I've installed Linux on former NT boxes using Compaq's remote management boards from 25 miles away
