  1. Why is it even 1 hour? Why not lock the USB port whenever the phone is locked?

  2. It wouldn't take long before "alternative" versions of browsers and window managers were created that ignored these DRM requirements. Once the data is on a machine, there is no sure way to keep it secure. The longer such measures were in place, the more popular these alternative tools would become. It is impossible to put the genie back in the bottle...

The solution is to mandate that the IMEI cannot be changed.. i.e. it is burned into a write once part of the phone. Currently manufacturers are resisting this idea. Then, all that needs to be done is to have international co-operation on sharing the IMEI blacklist, like is currently done all across western Europe. This is why currently phones need to be sold in eastern European countries like Poland or Hungary... but if the authorities really wanted to solve this problem they could easily get all operators worldwide to share the blacklist... As others have said, I believe that there is much more to this than theft prevention... more of the government pushing through things they want "for our own good"...

  6. Many of the researchers making such claims have been funded by BP. There is evidence that the well has still not stopped leaking completely. The fishing and seafood business in the Gulf is devastated and may never recover. http://technorati.com/entertainment/film/article/the-big-fix-film-gulf-oil/

  7. Human Error, not Software Glitch on Software Bug Causes Soyuz To Land Way Off · · Score: 1
Evidently the real cause of the 'error' in the landing is that one of the American crew pressed the wrong button which started a more ballistic re-entry program. This is somewhat understandable since they are not familiar with this spacecraft.

Someone from the Russian space centre revealed this right after the landing, and later the story was changed to a "software glitch". It is always easier to blame a computer than human error, which happens more often.

Here is the link to the Russian site that describes this, translated by www.translate.ru. Check the last paragraph.

We had the same problem as the Australian folks, the venue was not open. It is a nightclub (Lava Lounge) and only opens at 20:30. It is unfortunate that nobody checked this before suggesting it as a venue. Fortunately there was a restaurant next door with outside tables where we could sit and eat/drink while waiting for others to show up. A total of 7 people showed up and we had a good conversation. None of the so-called hosts made an appearance. I hope we can have more of these with a bit better organisation, it is interesting to meet new people in the technology world.
