  1. Re:Yes, but... looking in the wrong spot! :) on Comparing Memory Usage of Firefox 2 vs 3 · · Score: 2, Interesting

Much as I love firefox I have to say that for me it still has memory problems. It isn't the firefox process itself but the resources it hogs in X.

Right now I'm running the firefox-3.0b2pre nightly builds and firefox is taking 236MB of virual memory. X is using 3560MB and xrestop shows the firefox pixmaps as being responsible for 2714M of that.

Unfortunately the repodata provided on the CD & DVD is not useable by yum but creating a local yum repository is quite easy once you know how.

Installing packages from the original media is great just after you've loaded the system, but remember the good old days when you would be given the a prompt like: to complete this change you need to insert disk 3 of the installation media. Good luck finding the original disks a year or two after installing the PC.

I believe the majority people are happy that yum is preconfigured to download and install the most up to date version of a package from the internet whenever they need to install something new.

The UK government already allow you to submit your tax return in an XML document. Some information about the schema and the like are on GovTalk Last year I used the free TaxCalc Lite to submit my tax return. If you take a look at the files installed by the application you'll see that it is composed almost entirely from XML & XSLT documents. A related example is the German Home Banking Computer Interface supported by GnuCash
