Maybe because the project is actually in Japan? Quote from the webpage:- "I head the Brain Builder Group at ATR, a research lab in Kyoto, Japan. " and in case u notice, that URL is in Japan.
Try this... This is actually a step in a conspiracy. The first step was to use Australia as a testing site. And hell! They pull it off in DownUnder! Now the EU and next USA. After that, they can force everyone else on the world to fall in line or they pressure them... just a thought, and dont send the goons after me... and when is the last time a government really listen to the ppl? we complained in Australia, but to what purpose? the law still got through. Is the democratic system really democratic? i dont think so...
As you said, it is blown out of proportion by the media. However, what is more frightening is that how the general public lap this up! By this, I mean most people who use the computer to surf the net and don't understand how it works. It is like, everyone (well almost everyone) knows how to drive but most of them what goes on under the bonnet. I have people warning me about that a 'virus' going to infect my computer on 9/9/99, and warning that my computer will die a horrible death if i turn it on 9/9/99. I try to tell them it is unlikely that is the case but most of them is of the mentality, "media is probably right. better safe than sorry". A dark but interesting thought is, what if one day the computer and programs get so complicated that only a small proportion of population understand it? Would they have enormous power? What would our society become? haha I just wish that i have published a "9/9/99" patch;p could buy myself a new car just my 2c
Interesting view, but isn't the use of 'intelligence' here a bit overrated? what is your definition of intelligence? What and how do these 'entities' 'live' for? And what about animals? They are non-human intelligence too:)
I am more interested in their strategy in selling Japan. Most people here seems to prefer Vine since it has Japanese support. RH just doesn't seem to be common sight around here, although most Linux-using persons know what it is... 2c
I really think the word "Ultimate" is being overused. As someone has already pointed out, what if you have more than one computer? What would be better, in my opinion, is to get a nice, cheap, comfy recliner, a IR keyboard and mouse (or one with a VERY long cable), and A PROJECTION SCREEN! Sure the resolution may not be very nice, but sure much better on your eyes:) and you can use that to watch movies if you like:) or even use it to play N64 or PSX (as one of my friend has done) Of course, if you have more than one comp, tweaking the hardware to make it switch between the display of the various comp would be fun:) and also you dont want to use Win because if it dies, you have to haul you ass up every so often...
Haha, the first thing that comes to mind is "Wow, I maybe able to jack into the matrix soon" (too much Shadowrun for me) One thing that would be good to explore is artificial spinal cords, for all those people who have to use a wheelchair.
:) hmm the appleIIe. I still remebered when I was a little kid, how I loved to play "LoadRunner" on the apples, and how much I enjoyed when I tricked my brother into a hole:) having said that, I reckon the best game is "Tetris" (the old Nintendo version). Simple to learn and play, yet hours and hours of addictive fun. I wonder what is the record for that?:)
Sounds like the Matrix in ShadowRun... If you can intercept and understand the signals from the brain and use that to control things, then mind-reading machine will be possilbe, too... Just a thought

This is scary. Considering the ease to built and the low cost, it is just the perfect terrorists' weapon...
haha at the rate of 78 atoms/ 4 years, it will take a LONG time to build that tiny car :)

Before your imagination goes wild, Kinki is actually a place name near Osaka.

One of the symptoms listed of caffeine overdose "on the body as a whole" is "Death"... hmm... at least I know when to stop drinking.
That is AI. It has 5 rules that covers what it can do. A very limited one but it is AI none the less.
