I agree. I recently bought an iPod and what impresses me the most is not the hardware (although the click-wheel is cool) but how easy the whole experience is. Not only it is easy to upload music to the iPod, it displays unicode perfectly. A great boon for someone likes me who uses English and Chinese/Japanese. Now if it plays OGG and have a FM tuner:)
You would not be living in Sydney by any chance?:) I am the same but I tend to read on the train. Just the either day, I saw two university students whipped out their laptop on train and start watching anime on them. And now I am tempted to get one:)
I, for one, likes the online news more and have bought less newspaper as a result. I like how you can compare reports from different sources and look at other related or relevant information straight away on the net.
Who proved that they are terrorists? There are Australians held in Guantanamo, without charges, againist their will. How can Australian arrested outside America be held under U.S. power?
There are still originality. You just have to know where to look. Nitendo seems to be better at this. Think Animal Crossing and Pikmin. Think Eternal Darkness (the sanity meter). Sometimes, originality is in the little things. Ever play Wind-Waker? When you walk in a room, the character's eyes will look towards interesting objects that you can interact with, even though they maybe off screen and not obvious at first. The connectivity between GBA and GCN is also brilliant. You just have to know where to look:)
I cannot agree that text communication does not convey depth of emotion. After all, we have been communicating via text for centuries, with letters and books. If someone cannot express emotion via text, then the problem is not the medium, but the person (or just that the person does not want to express his/her emotion). I am not saying Internet addiction is not real but to most people, it is just something new and hence interesting. It is a great way to find some information that interest you. It is also useful to keep yourself informed. 2c
If you ask me, I would say "DON'T BOTHER!" Why buy a book when there is a nice set of tutorials ont the Sun website to get you started? If you need reference, learn to read the API documentation. If you really stuck, the forum on the site is a good place to get friendly advices. 2c
Is it? Considering that a brand new single CD costs around 1,100yen in Japan, 350yen is not too expensive. Another similar service which I have seen in Tokyo, is that you can download songs to your MD for a cost. Please remember that Sony is a corporation, they are out to make money, just like any other coporation. 2c
Agreed:) I still have yet to find any decent Go computer games on the Net:) any suggestions? even something simple will be great so i can learn from it:)
1. Wizard of the Coast for Magic cards. 2. Ebay 3. Postal Service - Damn it, they keep publishing new stamps. I am "forced" to buy them for my stamp collection... 4. All computer games companies - How many hours you spend playing Quake? 5. Internet - man, I stare at my screen 12 hours a day... 6. and why not the ultimate, God? - I have to breathe oxygen 24hrs a day and it is making me old:) Jokes, dudes, jokes....
No cameras on the rich? Not strictly true, once we accept that the fact we are going to be 'on camera', then I am sure some journalists going to set up 24/7 lookouts on the rich and famous. What is worse, in my opinon, is that not many people realised that this is going on, that they are being monitored one way or other. And the technology advances means that the cameras are getting smaller and smaller, hence harder to notice. I remember seeing this show once that set up this test. 4 cameras were hidden, disguied, in a store. And a few persons are challenged to find them. To help them, they can actually see the output of the cameras. They are given ten minutes. Even the guy who is a security consultant could not find all the cameras... just a thought...
Why we need this? Here are 2 possibilities:- 1) Fashionable - As some posters have pointed out, mobile phone is becoming a fashionable accessory, especially among young people. Here in Japan, this is especially true. People put stickers and straps (lots of them) of their phone. Some even painted their phone or replace the front panels. And phones with games are just so much more fashionable than one without:) 2) Long distance travel - It is not uncommon for people in Japan to commune an hour by train to work, each way, everyday. This adds up to a lot of time spent on the train. Gaming on their phones will be just another to kill the time. To some of you, this is just a gimmick, but to many other people, it is just the next step for their phone improvement:) Maybe time for me to pick up a new phone now;)
How about this for a solution? One computer dedicated for your net-surfing. Another one, stand-alone, to do all the other things, like lighting, heating, alarms, unfreezing your fridge... Of course, you still have to decide which computer to do what, and how (and if) they need to talk to each other... just a thought... As for me, I would only use it if I can install it myself. Furthermore, I will have one room that have no computer in it:)
How strange?! I have just started to read "The Diamond Age" too! Recommended by a friend. Haha, as not to be biased, I have not read the review yet:) I am about 100 pages into the page. The impression that I get so far is that it is weird. Both the setting and his style of writing is strange to me, being have not read any of his work before. However, the plot is just starting to get interesting and I am finding it harder and harder to put it down:) haha first post?
You have to start somewhere. And I sure didn't listen to anyone when I was younger.

Australia, for example. Then again, this may not last for long. Google for "UTS student protest".
Try playing Madden 2004. It uses up my 251 in one gulp :(

Name me a country in the world that has a population as diverse as ours. Show me another place that has such a wide variety of culture.
Australia, especially Sydney.

What makes you think China has to rely on foreign country for programming/setting up a firewall?
