10.3 comes with an older version of Xcode (1.0 I think). The newest version (1.5 I think) has to be downloaded from Apple's website, requring a free-but-time-consuming Developer Online Membership.
Version number questions. Many OS X users are still hanging on to 10.2.x because it's almost as fast and almost as good looking as 10.3.x. Many are waiting for 10.4 Tiger, and some developers are already using developer seeds of 10.4.
How are these issues different than coding with any flavor of Linux? I know my machines don't (always) have the most current kernel, or the newest ide. Why? Because of the stability of known and proven software. This results in having to download and install things when I want to upgrade or customize one of my systems, exactly like you'd have to do with OS X to get X11 or the newest Xcode. (Or XP, for that matter- what develpoment tools are in XP pro by default? Less than OS X, certainly)
Besides, I think it's safe to say that the machines being used are going to be setup using disk images to ensure uniformity, something that can be done on a PPC just as easily.
My guess is they're not using OS X because of the hardware differnces and the way these differences could skew the results, or give even an appearance of unfairness. Standardize the hardware, let the programmer choose the OS, and they have only themselves to blame if (when) explorer.exe crashes or if (never) the kernel panics.
I would love a portable kit for the Roady so I could use it like a walkman inside/outside. Really all you'd need to do is buy/hack a small battery pack to make it fully wireless. There would still be the problem of reception though- in my car, with the antena mounted outside, I lose reception just going down a street that has trees whose branches are overhead. I'd need more gain on the antena to be able to use this anywhere, and a stronger antena would be larger, negating the portability factor. O well, sat radio still rocks, sirius (my brother has it for sports) or XM (i have it for everything else)
Yeah, but what would really be even better is if they took their existing subscriber base, that currently pay the normal monthly fee, and offer this computer-based streaming service for, oh, I don't know- like $3.99.
XM is great for the morning and evening commute- I can hardly believe I made due with the swill on the normal radio for so long. However, having a computer w/ internet connection at my disposal means my entertainment choices are much more open. Port this to my PPC cell and I'll bite. In the meantime, if I want XM at home I'll buy the home adapter for ~$50 and pay no extra monthly fee.
Apparently, not only had you made the joke before, but we've had this conversation about you having made that extremely unfunny joke before... cause we both got modded down as redundant.
Maybe they are moderators from an alternate reality in the quantum internet where I did make that joke, many, many times.
PETA members were ouraged by the mind boggling number of cats that were killed to perfect this project. PETA members were not soothed by the scientists claims that, theoretically, there are an infinite number of realities in which the cats did not die.
XOR'ed with what? XOR is just a method of encryption, not a cypher or anything... it's the basis for the one-time-pad, the strongest encryption method next to quantum encryption.
Ha! all that's for the paranoid tinfoil hat people. I AND my data against itself. just try hacking my server!
I know, cheap joke, if it can even be called "joke", but it was already modded redundant which I just don't understand. But, as you point out wishing for an unfunny mod, there are flaws in the system.....
Also, I think you're wrong on what plans there are
Plans change in the cellular world. When I first signed on, Vision (only one plan for it at the time) unmetered was $10. Then I upgrade my plan, and had the option of keeping the $10 Vision granfathered into my plan or taking the $15 with $10 downloads. Your post simply shows that they've changed their plan rate since last I checked.
So, any suggestions/resources you could point to on how to get something like this to interface to a PC/MAC for ssh connections? Thanks in advance, unless you don't respond, in which case, well, thanks anyway- you piqued my interest.
I'm on Sprint now and their 3g(ish) Vision plans are $10 standard, $15 premium. Both are enmetered. (The premium gets you $10/mo free downloads) I had T-Mobile a while back, and at the time they were $10 unmetered, though now I think it's more like $15. Of course, you have to be careful not to max out the bandwidth if you hack the phone to work as a modem with a laptop, since they don't like that sort of thing, but aparently anything under 1gb/mo won't catch their eye...
I agree with you fweeky, but clifyt's UID number is lower, so match point is his. Better luck next time, and thank you for playing the Slashdot game. Please try the home edition for more zany Slashdot thrills!
It said structures. Read the post. Then, read a programming book. Or at least Google for f**k's sake- you're on Slashdot, not FAQ's R' Us.
Stupid Google fanboys. Besides, Google is dead. Long live Google.

I just use 26 rounds of ROT-26. I've become so used to it I don't even need to reverse the system to read my data.

Bah! I use figlet encryption.

Why so much worrying over Aol Instant Messaging Systems? I though we were an open source crowd, Jabber and all that.

yes
Yeah, but it could take like, 1/2 an hour to drive that far. Keep your pysical copy. I'll be waiting riiight here for the stream.
God: There is no exp(pi*sqrt(163))
I can't believe I just replied to a .sig. What a dork I am.
Sure, $50 for the wirelesss router + a couple pringles cans and poof! you're there.

symetric figlet encryption... never defeated.
Oh, and sure, I use tcsh- wanna make somethin' of it?
