i've been using Linux as my only OS for nearly 8 years now. the highlight-as-copy method is engrained in my head. in fact whenever i work on my friends windows machines (free tech support ARGH) it always trips me up to have to use ctrl-c and ctrl-v.
i personally think the Linux method of copy/paste is so much better than the windows method. sure it doesn't traverse every application but when it does it's so quick an simple. i would rather see all Linux applications pick up the highlight/paste method instead of moving over to the the keyboard method.
i know it seems crazy and probably would never happen (because someone has to make money off of something sometime - it seems). and i'm sure this idea has come up on/. countless times before...but...
has anyone ever actually tried to open source hardware? maybe it's just my limited mind but the potential seems limitless.
devlopers get so wrapped up in having to figure out just how to make their babies work with hardware X or hardware A. what would happen if someone created hardware who's specs and designs were always available for everyone to see? don't like how something works on that hardware? take the designs and create your own version.
i don't know. maybe i've been out in the sun too long today.
i just dl'd the latest FC2 and installed it on my dad's computer that dual boots win2k/fc2.
works perfectly and i didn't nothing to it. in fact the FC2 install was smooth as silk.
so why has no one come up with a solution for this problem. now i'm a huge linux zealot and use FC1 (will upgrade as soon as the slashdot effect is gone from the download sites) so this isn't bashing. but it just amazes me that i've yet to come across a distro that, out of the box, has a browser with all the bells and whistles! and let's face it - the average jane wants all the bells and whistles!
so enlighten me - why is this so hard?
thank you, peace, good night.
since when did Sun's StarOffice work on Macs? i just checked their sight and they do not offer the package for the Mac platform.
do you know something i don't?
to avoid all this SCO nonsence why don't the developers start back with kernel 2.3 and figure out where the code is, replace it, and redistribute?
is that even possible?
if you can't buy it at the stores now - will the only way to purchase be to download and burn? ouch!!!!! what about all those without burners? what about all those without broadband?
or will you be able to purchase the CDs on line?
or will you have to switch to SuSE or Mandrake?

i'd move up to canada just for the mountain biking!!!!!! we have some great places here in the US but you have to travel 1500 miles to get to them.
