You won't have a choice. Palladium will be mandated by law ni the name of national security or some such. It will be illegal to use, produce or view DRM content on a non-Pd system, it will likewise be illegal to connect a non-Pd system to the net in the US.
Unfortunately by the time we get to see 'the real thing' it may already be mandated by law and be far too late to do anything about it. When dealing with something like this you really can't have too much lead time.
If I ever receive anything like this I swear I'll burn it and ship them back the ashes. Shrinkwrapped of course, with thier liscence stuck right on the front.
I seriously don't think there's much outside of a major war or the impending destruction of the planet that would really cause massive social upheaval. We lived through 9/11 and in reality, despite the destuction, the fear and the subsequent massive loss of privacy and civil rights, things continue to tick on much the same as always. Despite cries that everything has changed, in reality very little has changed.
If we finally were visited by aliens, or if someone finally did catch bigfoot or the lochness monster it'd be news for a few days, and then we'd be back to our everyday concerns.
Never underestimate the people's propensity for self-centeredness.

>Wesley Crusher action figure
Nah, it'd clash with my Enterprise action figures.

>"don't bother coding any DirectX stuff as we are working on it and we will let you have ours". They never said that.
