  1. Holy Slow Reaction Time BatMan! on Why Movie Trailers Now Begin With Five-Second Ads For Themselves (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

This isn't new.... have you watched TV lately....
Haven't you been annoyed by... err, I mean seen the advertisements for the show that you're already watching ?
I mean really, ABC and SyFy have been doing this for well over at least a year. (I think. prolly longer.)

They show you a 5-10 second blip of whats coming up, either just after the commercial break, or just on the way to one.

Apparently we're just so busy doing other sh*t... err, I mean need to be reminded that we MUST watch to keep the Nielson ratings up, so that the producer can afford to make the next mind numbing MUST see, CAN'T miss episode. You know... the one we've been waiting for ? Right ?

Maybe if the content was worth watching, we wouldn't need to be ... brow beat.. err, I mean assaulted with all the adds for the prescription medication, err... hottest new vehicle, err.. injury lawyer promising us money for our "pain and suffering"

Oh.. BTW, thanks to the FDA/FCC (I blame you both equally) for giving us the privilege of being hypnotized by big pharma into believing that we need to tell our doctor that we must have this or that brand of this or that medication to solve our hypochondria-tic nature.

Wait... do guys here that... baa aaa aaaa - who forgot to lock the sheep in their pens ?

  2. Re:They don't work for me on Ask Slashdot: Are Progressive Glasses a Mistake For Computer Users? · · Score: 2

My "expert Optometrist" (who is in bed with the frame & lens supplier next door ( pick your favorite )) also did the same thing. Even after I told her that I "stare" at multiple 21" monitors for 12-18 hours a day, and rely heavily on the use of my peripheral vision, and eye movement. She, at some point, babbled on about how I'm going to need bi-focals, but that progressives would be better... bla... bla... bla. So, taking the attitude, Dr. knows best, I stupidly got the progressives. I like you, had the same problems, "Sweet" spot, exaggerated head movement to use the sweet spot, etc. etc... I took them back within 2 hours, after having driven and trying to work at my computer, I vowed never to get them again. It was like trying to look at the world through a straw. Absolutely ridiculous! How does anyone "get used" to that ? If needed, I'll get one or two pair of cheap reading glasses for near/reading/computer use, and a perscription for distance.

Screen is the only way to go for cli persistance.
I've been using it for years now, and would have a hard time going without it.
    I always mod the default screen rc by adding the following, it gives you a status bar line at the bottom of your screen to show you what sessions you have running;
    startup_message off
    shell -$SHELL
    shelltitle "\$: |"
    caption always "%-Lw%{= BW}%50>%n%f* %t%{-}%+Lw%"

cause it prevents me from doing things like sender address delivery verification.

In my fight against spam, I test the incomming email sender address, if it ain't deliverable, it gets refused. This cuts out ALOT of spam.

How am I supposed to do that if AOL won't let me connect to their MTA just cause i'm on the end of a cable modem, or a DSL line.

Dynamic ip or not, the network is supposed to work all the time!

I reported this two or three weeks ago in a submission here to slashdot, but I guess it wasn't important then... I'm on RoadRunner via TimeWarner cable. Hmmm... AOL/TimeWarner doesn't want to receive mail from AOL/TimeWarner customers. Sounds like they are REALLY interested in customer feedback!
