Instead of scanning the apps that I choose to install on my phone, why not just scan the apps they allow on their Play Store? Then, if people choose to install applications outside of the store, it'll be at their own risk. Also, scanning the app ONCE on their store makes more sense than redundantly scanning it millions of times on each users phone.
It's not just happening in the US. All the major carriers in Canada had initially denied having Carrier IQ on their phones (Rogers/Bell/Telus) but it has recently been found on the Rogers LG Phoenix.
Another interesting analysis with anonymity in the Internet age could be done with the Vancouver Stanley Cup riots from a couple of months ago. People were openly destroying vehicles and commercial property while knowingly surrounded by cell phones and professional photographers recording every move they made. Video and photos were uploaded in real time to the Internet, eventually assisting the police and the public to identify a large number of locals.
It was a bizarre case of cognitive dissonance where these criminals would pose in front of their crimes without a thought to the fact that they would be easily identified and charged with the said photo.
This will come in handy as I release all my LEGAL self created media as torrents through Pirate Bay. It's an excellent tool to help promote independent artist's work.
It already existed in 1984.. Well, it kind of did, this one actually worked off of your muscles in your head but it sure reminded me of the Atari Mindlink that was vapourware in 1984.
I've heard about burglars sucessfully sueing the owners of the houses they break into when they hurt themselves. Shouldn't these activities fall under the clean hands doctrine or are they all urban legends?
I personally *will* mourn the loss of SuprNova but not for the reason you think.
A large number of downloads of my own self-produced TV Show and band originated from SuprNova and helped provide an easily accessable portal for distribution. My works are free to copy and distribute and in no way were infringed upon by being listed on the SuprNova site. I also remember seeing many many other Internet distributed TV shows and movies. If they are looking for an example for legitimate uses for their service, please come see me.
This story completely reminded me of a song by Lard (Jello Biafta & Ministry) about how the government is tracking us by our teeth.
CAN GOD FILL TEETH?
Don't ask me why But I was walking down the streets Of Fairfax, California And I saw this flyer hangin' On a telephone pole, and it said CAN GOD FILL TEETH?
For a $10 "donation" You could see silver fillings turn To gold and other "supernormal dental happenings." New caps! Filled cavities! Bring a Flashlight and a mirror and observe
But wait a minute Didn't I just read About how the cops are getting parents To plant bugging devices In their kids' teeth So if they disappear they can track 'em Before they wind up on the backs of milk cartons And all that
And didn't I read That these devices can go two-way And everything that I do or say Is all goin' on tape somewhere right now Planted in my cavities And they didn't even tell me no wonder every bad thing In and out of my mouth Keeps winding up on my employment record
All those fillings All those crowns I'll show them Who's the boss of my big mouth
Where's the pliars God dammit! Where's the pliars?!? Wilma! Where'd you put my electric drill This is all coming out now-TODAY!
Must be some kind of conspiracy The whole world's a God damn conspiracy Look anywhere long enough, you're gonna find a conspiracy Man, LIFE is a conspiracy!
CHORUS
Needlenose Up my nose -Agh!- Where did all these wires come from? How far up into my skull do they go I pull out more and more copper spagetti
How'd my Weekly World News get all wet? God damn fishsticks melted again What are they trying to do to me? No secrets in the land of the free!
There no one's gonna tell me what to do It's worth eating baby food The rest of my life To be a free man Bastards Probably wouldn't understand me anyway
Look ma, no hands! With Atari's new Mindlink controller, your hands are free to eat, knit, file your nails or whatever, while you play computer games. The infrared sensors wrap around your forehead with Velcro straps and plug into the MindLink transmitter, which plugs into the Atari Computer, VCS or 7800 game system. It doesn't really read your mind, but it does detect muscle impulses when you move your eyebrows. The $100 device was to play games like Breakout, and Atari claimed that software would be available on ESP, thought games, memory and biofeedback.
They've been trying since 1996 to place a Tariff on Canadian Internet broadcasters, only to be shot down each year. It's little known that this 'tax' is worse than the most expensive proposal from the US counter part from the RIAA and also more intrusive into listeners personal listening habits.
I've been fighting against Tarriff 22 (the tarriff aimed directly at broadcasters) for a number of years now with a lot of support from other Canadian radio stations and listeners. Our fight has seemingly not fallen on deaf ears because each year it gets shot down again. This new blanket 'tax' on ISP's falls directly in line with similar unfair blanket taxes they have implemented in the past with blank media.
SOCAN doesn't seem to realize that by charging these huge tariffs on people and ISP's enjoying music on the Internet it doesn't benefit musicians but actually prevents the incentive for people to seek out music.
I recently produced a radio drama exclusively for the Internet for downloading and also airing on my station RantRadio. There were 9 x 1 hour episodes coming from the creative mind of Sean Kennedy.
Called 'Tales from the Afternow', it's pretty damn creative and if you take into account that NONE of it is pre-written and all spoken on the fly your mind will be blown away. With background sound effects etc.. etc.. it's a good listen.

Thanks Pirate Bay!
The dogs in N. Ireland must have been trained by the same people that trained Lucky and Flo in this 2006 story.

The look on the dogs faces are saying to me: "What? Sniff out pirated media? That's so 2006."

But then again, music is all about profit, right?
