  1. Ogg Theora on Video Formats for non-Windows Users? · · Score: 1

Good compression, supported in recent Helix Player, VLC, Mplayer, open source, non-patented and made by good people. I've seen both Redhat and the CC licence website distribute video in Ogg Theora.

  2. Re:Same old misconceptions about musical branching on New Developments in Music Technology · · Score: 1

You'd be amazed how often this guy, Machover gets in the press with these toys and his Hyper-Instruments. Sure, they're fun to play with, but give a kid a drum set and a few lessons and (s)he'll really learn something. Music.

Booooooring. Sometimes kids don't want to learn music they just want to make cool sounds. In fact, I don't really think these Hyper-Instruments are described here as much of a musical instrument anyway.

Musical education is a wonderful thing but sometimes it's just plain uninteresting.

  3. Re:Daunting? on Debian Desktop Subproject Launched · · Score: 2, Interesting

The Yellow Dog Linux installation has a graphical installer (using the Blackbox WM) and it requires you to click through about 10 screens. If you live in the USA, most of the default settings are accaptable.

After installing both Mac OS X and Windows 2000 many times, I can honestly say that the YDL installer is the most directly functional and the least obtrusive.
