You might want to consider changing file permissions on the user's hard drive then. I assume that they're relagated to some role on the desktop other than at the local Administrator level? If so, it would be trivial to block them out of write permisson on the C: (or whatever local hard drive is called) and so on. Also if you're doing Roaming Profiles then you can still have them store stuff on the Desktop, which will then be sync'ed back to the server. The wait times are a lot less now thanks to mobsync.exe only moving across changed files (a la rsync). Have your network admin look into this; and uhh if you are the network admin, well maybe consider writing the 70-270 MS exam (Windows XP).:-)
Umm why would you EVER kill a smoking ban? Don't you know that smoking will kill you, and negatively impact EVERYONE who inhales your cigarette smoke? How can you be so daft?
Enjoy New Hampshire. Don't ever leave. Then we'll never have to meet.
Open Source is certainly a useful tool for developers... now wouldn't it be nice if slashdot included an Open Source grammar/spell checker before posting?
It's spelled "niche" NOT "nitch". Just because you pronounce it differently in America doesn't make it right to spell it incorrectly.:)
I use squid proxy at home, work, and customer sites to block unwanted ads.
We set up a list of about 20 acl url_regex deny lines for the largest ad hosting sites (doubleclick.net, etc). Make the error file white text on a white background. Only VERY rarely does this become a problem for users, and we treat those as one-offs, and we load that page/site for them on a different PC. This way users get EXTREMELY faster browsing, from the cache, and sans ads!

That quote doesn't show up on either Google or Yahoo!. Not very responsible of you to not also link to a site where it is publicly posted.. Tsk tsk!
Actually this Police Force division switched to "StarOffice" 5 years ago, which isn't OSS (not yet anyways). But good point none-the-less.
As a Canadian reading this thread, I wonder, is everyone in the US a lawyer? Why so much suing going on?
The article stated that no defence exists for this attack. I can't see how a firmware update will rectify anything.
Better documentation on accomplishing dual booting is available at The Linux Documentation Project's site. Kudos to IBM tho for making an effort. :)
