    If you're into the most popular titles (quake, doom, rtcw, unreal) a G5 is as good a buy as any highly optimized (and prized) gaming machine...

    Apple is not overpriced. You get what you pay for. It's pretty expensive, but if you can pay the initial price, it should turn out to be less expensive over the years. This does put a brake to most people's way of buying a computer - going for the lowest price and then upgrading it gradually - but there are excellent loan conditions.

    If - and that's the only way of looking at it - if you want to buy a mac, you'll find there are ways, and in the end you'll be saving both money and time.

    You might even come to like it. It's not for nothing that people so enthousiastically defend their macs, and no, it's not because of Jobs, I mean, look at the guy...

    You are seriously mental if your choice to purchase an Apple over a PC considers percentages in processor performance.

    True, but who said that when Apple was sloooooow?

    The main reasons for buying Apple are imo ease of use, stability, good software (even games, but not always the coolest - think Keeper 2), speed (measured in what you get done in real work instead of coaxing your computer) and maybe even coolness if I am honest.

    And now raw processor speed - if not ever a real argument - at least isn't a deterrent anymore.

    There you go.

    The flamebait we're talking about is a complete hoax. It's sent every time an Apple topic is posted on \.

    What it describes is plainly not possible, his post is full of inconsistencies.
    This mail is posted in exact same form about a 100 times. Do you really think it's True then? Even if what he's trying to sell here is not possible?

    the only thing he changes once in a while is the type of machine he's supposedly using. Now it's a Dual G5 1.6 Mhz.

    Problem is: there is no such thing as a DUAL G5 1.6.
    I repeat: not only is he describing stuff that's impossible, he's also doing it on a NON EXISTING machine.

    Every time this gets posted, it's followed by a very *funny* mail from a catholic priest saying how glad he is that he's bought a mac and is now officially a member of the gay brotherhood. He's very glad he can use his mac to "convert" little boys. That very funny mail is then "answered" by a mail from Apple encouraging the priest. This is soooo very funny and colorful, especially after the 40th time.

    You see? It's flamebait, lies, stupidity squared. It's not even remotely funny, given the fact that people like you are totally convinced after seeing us flame that guy for the 100th time that those mac guys/grrls are just a bunch of touchy daffodils.

    Get it, got it? Good.

    It's as simple as that. Is this grown up behaviour? No, but it

    1) is completely legal;
    2) doesn't have any consequenses for you;
    3) is a nice public display of the strength of GPL'd code;
    4) could seriously embarras SCO even before they go to court;
    5) doesn't weaken the position of the GPL in the least.

    I presume there are ways to limit the use of said code if they publicly state they don't respect the license it's distributed under.
    And if SCO willingly disregards those limitations, it consequently could be taken up by interested parties with deeper pockets... but that's not the issue.

    It is not about starting another lawsuit, but about making it public knowledge that Very Powerful Software(tm) is being produced under the GPL and that the same idiots who refute the GPL can't possibly do what they do without it.
