640kbps assuming no headers, no framing, no errors, no error checking, no inter-frame gap, and 8 bits/byte, IOW not going to happen in the real world. 80kBps, on a file transfer, would be more like a really clean 768kbps line, or a mediocre 960kbps line.
Dividing kbits by 8 to get kbytes, as seen by file transfers, is just plain wrong. A better rule of thumb when it comes to broadband (dsl/cable) is to divide by 10, that'll be much closer to your actual maximum transfer rate.
Beyond the very few times writing in cursive is required, signatures being the only one I can think of, printing is as fast or faster and typing just plain leaves both in its dust.
I seem to recall the existence of cursive came about because of the writing devices of the time, ink well + stylus, in which writing using a style that didn't lift the stylus reduced drips and smudges, looking "pretty" was a side effect.

This is precisely WHY BitTorrent will continue on for legitimate uses, and not for distributing "big hollywood movie". The users commiting a crime with the tool will be prosecuted, not the tool maker.
