In what respect? The healthcare he received you mean?

That's the beauty of a universal healthcare system - everyone has access to the same treatment. They didn't treat him specially because he had international fame (in fact, the fame didn't come until later - it didn't affect his treatment by the NHS at all).

    I'm paraphrasing his own words.

Well, why paraphrase when you can quote:

"I wouldn't be here today if it were not for the NHS, I have received a large amount of high-quality treatment without which I would not have survived."

Remember when he was held up as a textbook example of the types of people who would "not survive" under a universal healthcare system?

Until, of course, he pointed out that not only was he born in Britain under such a system, but that he owes his life to it many times over.

The retractions on those stories (those who even bothered to correct them) were amusing.

I still think his most significant contribution to mankind is teaming up with Pink Floyd ;) What's a PhD when you can be a rock star? (Brian Cox and Brian May, quiet you!)

It's hilarious that Apple is being demonised in this thread for something they haven't actually done. They haven't said word one about the iMac-inspired design (Vizio's CEO quote: [we have] worked on [our] computer designs for two years in attempts to offer an aesthetic that competes with Apple Inc.'s popular products but at a lower price ), but everyone is quick to jump on it.

They're certainly not the first company to make an All-in-one that was clearly a response to the iMac, and thus far none of those other (and there have been several) designs have faced lawsuits.

In my opinion it looks ok - I'm not sold on the slender neck, since it feels like the screen might wobble around (although I'm sure it's actually solid).

I'm not so sure - they have seen year-on-year growth for the past 6 years, in opposition to the general trend of the industry as a whole (this is exclusively talking about OS X machines). The number of people who use a computer is extremely high, and Apple have been welcoming switchers for more than half a decade and still have plenty of room for growth. Plenty more affluent/well enough off people to consider the switch to Mac when they look at upgrading/replacing the old computer - especially now that it's even easier than ever to run Windows in a VM or dual boot if you still have "that one program" that you really must keep that is Win only.

I'm not sure they're close to a plateau yet.

You think they need a power adapter that sends a token to unencrypt a password stored on your Mac (the adapter does not have the password) to skim a password that you type into your Mac in plaintext every time you log in? Assuming, of course, that they were going to "skim" it.

It will also work with full-disk-encryption FileVault.

I know it's already trivial to reset an admin password on an OS X machine - all you need is in OS X install disc and the ability to press "C" while booting and you can change the password. It won't get you past FileVault or the keychain though.

I think you're projecting a bias here - Apple has got nothing to do with it, although while we're on the topic the original AC claimed that iOS' numbers were inflated because they might be counting any Webkit browser (even though those Webkit browsers have different UA strings) for some reason.

There may be genuine reasons for finding the data suspect (there are), but the fact that it doesn't match up with a single person's view of the world is not one of them.

Your attempts to paint this as some sort of "pro Apple" thing? Seriously? I didn't even mention it?! I think your bias is showing.

I have looked back through my post history on the site, and searched my email archives for replies from you for this mythical "18 comment thread" where I "constantly insult" you and have yet to find it.

So, I say again - post the link to the thread or it simply didn't happen. I think you'll find that if any such thread exists then either a) you were posting AC or on a different account, or b) if it did occur I was not "constantly insulting" you since I am rarely rude on slashdot, just occasionally a little facetious or even c) you have realised you've got the wrong person.

Either way, a comment thread from 9 months ago on your current account hardly constitutes "following you around".

You (or anyone else) are welcome to go back and check my posts personally - slashdot keeps them all, and I cannot delete them or get the mods to remove them (I'm not a scientologist). I suspect you're trying to bluff anyone else who reads this since it's a hassle to check, but I have checked just to be sure, and unless it's on another account: nothing in the past 5 odd weeks, except for today (the page won't seem to load anything earlier than 24th November, or perhaps it's just the past 200 comments. The 29th of March 2009 is the last time (before this thread) that slashdot gave me a notification email stating you replied to a comment of mine on the account you are currently posting with. Here is the email in full, sent on 29 March 2011 04:35:11 GMT+01:00:
