As to whether this should be on/. windsurfing seems a more apropriate geek sport to me than rowing (obvoulsy I'm biased on this). Hi tech construction, always pushing the speed records, and it's 95% technique and only 5% fitness.
Her windsurfer looks biger than your average sailing boat but it was built with the help of the european space agency.
1. If you can, go to a supermarket or any store nearby that gives you cashback on your debit card. I can buy a pack of gum instead of paying stupid ATM fee AND get cashback with NO risk.
a) In one small pissant purchase, you've cleared out the register of cash, which makes it difficult to give change to the next customer.
Uhh I'd of thought that most supper markets still have more cash comming in than out.
The service is free in Australia where I live and I remeber it becomming so in belgium when I lived there.
About 10 years ago Supermarkets in Belgium routinely charged for atm use and for withdrawing money. There was a spate of armoured car roberies, the Armoured car drivers union went on strike until the police did something about it and the suppermarkets were all of a sudden left with large amounts of cash and became scarred they would get hit next.
Within a week every chain dropped all fees for paying by atm card and actively encouraged people to withdraw cash leaving them with mostly electronic transfers which were almost certainly cheaper as well as safer.
At high frequencys the left hand of the needle will pick up some of the signle intended for the right hand side and vice-a-versa.
High frequency cross over will generate a slightly beter defined sound stage and so can sound "nicer" and may be one of subtle things people can pick up on.
But it is distortion and can be recreated electronically if so desired.
Great post, but vinal can be just as cheap. I bought a second hand B&O turntable for less than 20$. It sounds excelent and looks fantatic (there is one permenantly in the design mueseum in london.)
When I moved I broke the needle and had to try to get a replacement, the cartridge/needle I had been using was 500$ new!
So turntables can be cheap as well!
So what can be done in a school to improve the environment?
If kids are willing to act like adults they should be given the same privledges.
If we are going to build prisons (to use the same analogy), then put good prisoners into open prisons, and make the criteria for "good" some thing real.
I had the fortune to go to a fairly enlighted school. Very middle class, most of the kids had support from their parents and most of the teachers wanted to teach us something rather then just escape back to the staff room. Nerd were still picked on but nothing like to the extent they were elsewhere. I think to some extent this was because being responsible/smart meant you generally had more freedom. The aditional freedom was envied.
For example: We played Rugby ( think football without the pads;-) ) for Physical Education which I hated. So we decided we would rather go mountain bikeing during the same period. We would orgaise a route nearby we would folow nearby and notify the PE staff, we arranged consent forms from parents and said we would be back at the same time.
We had to work out what was required to do this, set a course of the right length, organise ourselfs, pursuade the staff this was a good idea and have the initiative to make it happen.
The reward was being able to do something that we wanted, and it was without doubt "cooler" to be seen leaving school for a couple of hours without supervision.
I would agree that crashes are not diagnosed and fixed as regularly but I think the reasons are more along the lines off no body ever tries.
Sure you can't get to the code but diagnostics tools available are comprehensive and the chance of finding a solution to most issues by searching through google are excelent
The asumption most windows users have is that you insert the CD and it just works; you don't need to know why. If it's broken I'll take it back to the shop.
Far less of the user base then has any idea how to start diagnosing a crash.
As part of my job I interview many windows sysadmins for reasonably senior roles. Generally they have been to college and have > 3 years experience with the product.
One standard question is to present a bsod and ask them to tell us what happened.
We always use the simplest example and all we want is for them to pick up on the stop message and either know what it means or be able to look it up.
VERY few pass this despite it being a fairly straight forward and you'd think common problem.
There are hundreds of thousands of record companies worldwide who abuse intectual property laws.
If I have a purchased a album on cassette/LP then I have payed ~10% for the media and ~90% own the right have a copy of the interlectual property.. If I now want that piece of music on a differnent media format whay should I have to pay 100% again.
