I know Mac OS since system 4.3, and until those badly ported DOS/Win Apps appeared, an Application was one file that could easily be moved around (your floppy disk;>) and would still function perfectly.
Up until X that became more and more of no-no. You installed and app and better not moved any part of it afterwords.
Finally, Mac OS X reintroduced the nice one-app-is-one-file feature in the NeXTish way which I really like. But for Woz' sake, why on earth do the apps have to be in the Applications folder to be found? Apple even ships a locate db with the system, so don't tell me they wouldn't have an idea how to find their stuff after I moved it...
Just out of curiosity: is there any reason why every now and then, slashdot posters obviously insult people merely because they have a different opinion?
Is that the thinking different bit of apple.slashdot?
My first thought was: why not add a mini dock to the picture frame?
But then again, that would be pretty easy to do compared to the making of the frame itself. Thus, one should hack the slot-in Duo Dock so it accepts the frame.;-)
That would give you not only ethernet but also a NuBus slot. With an old video grabbing card you'd be able to upload video clips to the picture frame. *drool*
This is a very nice piece of software, thanks for the link.
Space always seemed to be the kind of app that leaves things completely messed up once it crashes. That feeling does not come back with Virtual Desktop.
Let's see... the high performance SCSI disk (for the time) in your IIfx was how fast? The laptop ATA drive in your G4 PowerBook is how fast? Hmmm... not much difference is there?
The IIfx is relatively slow whereas the PowerBook is relatively fast.
Still, it kinda makes you wonder that starting Terminal.app still takes more than a second until you can see your prompt, doesn't it?
I guess people are going to miss the Happy Mac for about as long as they missed the Picasso-esque illustration that could be seen until System 7 was renamed Mac OS.
I really liked that illustration, but did not miss it for very long. The Happy Mac, well, no. I am not going to miss it.
Clarus the dogcow is a different story.;)
Not very Mac-like, is it?

Funny, I don't think the speed (or lack thereof) problems I'm getting right now are on my end...
Technically, you can't have speed problems without a connection...
Poor little Newt.

My first computer was a Mac Plus with two floppy drives. Resolution: 512x384, black and white only. 1 MB RAM. No more.
You might be tempted to call it "a piece of shit" but I did word processing, graphics and layout, databases and programming with it.
The only thing I added was a 40 MB hard drive when I fell in love with HyperCard, no use trying without one.
And guess what: that thing still runs flawlessly today and is perfectly capable of doing all of the things mentioned.
Is there any reason a kid needs a GHz machine running Office 2007 and Photoshop 12.0? Honestly, I don't think so.

Neat.

Yeah, exactly.
