Our guys are still using powerpc boxes with aix on but weve got them a better proggy and a dual 2.0ghz zeon box to play with and i can honestly say they love it but its taking a while for them to be really happy with it...as it just dosent do some of the things they are used to.But im hopefull that we can move to it.Their current stuff is just way tooo old...
I rember playing the origional system shock on nights at work.Looking at the clock it was 7pm...next time i looked it was 6am.Id been so into the game id just mounted the mainframe tappes in a haze and just played all nite..talk about immersed:)
Id have to admit i loved ultima9 and still run it up every now and again..Runs fine on modern hardware.I plyed uo early on for about 5 yrs but recently got bored but any game with the ultima name would have to have that special magic which i doubt ea can do without richard garriot.Butr heres hoping:)
id have to say that ever since i moved my main pc into the front room ive taken much more notice of noise..probably cause otherwise my wife would kick it out.The new generation of ide and scsi hard drives are sooo quiet its unbelievable. In fact when i power up my sparc classic with its old 1gb 50 pin scsi it makes my head hurt...
Unbelievable the difference a few years has made.
I've recently aquired some sparc classics and after installing sol9 and red hat on 2 of them was looking at bsd earlier this week but just couldnt decide which one to download and install.I should say im a win2k admin and have really only recently started looking at non-microsoft products. So im going to give freebsd a go:)
A very informitive article for a new-alternative os user.
True they are coming down but trying to break corperate policy so i can have an apple is damm impossible..:(
And for personal use laptops are too damm expensive much as i would love to have a cheap apple to play with to add to my sparc stuff...
3dfx were good bar the v3 3500 their drivers were good and the hardware was good i had v2,banshee,v3 and still have a v5 5500 in my kids pc.It was a sad day when they died. But they always seemed to be behind the game after they started making thier own cards..
Play it alot be active in the forums and plateste it properly and post bugs. You hopefully will get noticed and then for the next one u can add the 'i betatested so and so ' to the next application.Ive done a few but no longer have the time due to rl and kids:)
