This is only in the download version. You could (GASP) try to pay for a version and get it ad free.
I am quite sure you are exposed to ads in your life anyway, a few more during installation is not going to hurt that much.
Oh, and benchmarks are not? Always take real-life performance test if they are similar to your work before benchmarks.
Benchmarks are only a substitute for real-life test, not better than.
You are forgetting that as long as there is a single source the situation is different. If one food company tries to this kind of thing you just buy from someone else. Since it is not practicly possible to have to companies offer you power all the way to your home, there will always be some kind of monopoly.
Private companies with monopolies are a nightmare for the consumers, they will find a way to earn money on your expanse.
The reason is they didn't know they were stealing code. If this was a know thing than SCO was willingly realising it as GPL.
The only people that can have commited a crime (is it a crime?) are the ones who copied the code and didn't tell anyone.
That does not make it legal. Whatever you feel is right is not really important. Law and morality is not the same. If you break a law you are a criminal.
But I do agree that the laws should be changed. But until they are our only choices are to stop buying music and try to make the politicians see it our way.
You are missing the point here. If I have zero $$ and steal whatever it is still theft, but noone is loosing a potentional customer.
The record companies and their friends are saying that everyone who had access to something (music, cable, etc) would have been a likely potentional customer if they couldn't get the stuff through illegal means.
I hope you get my point. It would be illegal for me to steal mp3's (and uncle Steve says it is bad for my karma) but I am still not a potentional customer for overpriced Britney music.
This is true for "real" theft as well. If a homeless person stole an iMac from an Apple store that would be theft, but Apple would probably not loose a potentional customer since he couldn't afford it anyway.
If you can't afford it you probably don't need it? That must be one of the most stupid remarks I have ever heard.
I can agree with the fact that if you can't afford it you are not in the target group for the producers.
Think of all the starving people. If they can't afford the food they probably don't need it, right?
The problem here is that.Mac is lacking in other departments. I want to be able to use Java server-side scripting, or at least some for of server-side scripting. And I want the ability to talk to a DB.
I can get this other places for less than.Mac, so if I could get some syncing going I wouldn't have to pay for both.
Thanks, I was merely wondering (and all the other threads were not there yet), and to lazy to think for myself.

This is just like me. I am completly against Bush and his warmongering, but I still hate every american life that is lost and think it is good that the Iraqi people are free now. Although that in no way means I support the war, I am just against ANY human life lost.
It is the same here, if we take away some rights to further our goals then we are back at square one with another sets of tyrants to add to the lists.
Free as in completly free. Even for evil things.
Or the whole xbox thing were only programs made/published by microsoft can be run. As I understand it this would not be possible under the GPL.
Competition is good, just not x-box games that does not pay a MS tax.
Free trade is good, just noot steel into the US. And by the way, we want to subsidize our air industry even though it is wrong.
The java bytecodes can be compiled at runtime, called Just In Time compilation. Since all the details of the current system are available at run-time it can be more optimized than it you are just targeting a platform.
It is true that this is not done much in real life, but the theory is there.
Note that JIT are not neccasarily platform specific, they just know the platform when run. The code for all the JIT compilers *CAN* be in the same executible.
The parent post is for all I know correct in practise and mostly theory as well. This is just details that are seldom used.

Books can often help you find out about new things. Google usually helps me find an answer to a specific question while books give completly new knowledge.
One example is the unix tool bc which I read about in OS X: The missing manual. It has been really useful for me, and event though the man pages are decent I would nevere have read them because I would never dream of typing man bc.
Books can also give you in-depth knowledge quicker, but I do use google more and more lately instead of books.
If you are into Java server solutions give kgbinternet.com a try. You can get a solution for as low as $7 a month ($10 canadian). I have always received good service from them.
I think you can use the service for perl/php as well, but I don't need it so I have not checked.
That is actually how it is written here in Norway (and probably many other places as well). We use , instead of.(.)
The exception is time where 1.50 minutes means 1 minute 50 seconds and 1,50 minutes means 1 minute 30 seconds

TextEdit in Panther can read and save basic word files. Should help.

Then I apologise, the link was slashdotted when I first tried to look, so I just made an educated guess.
