  1. Re:Sandy Assassin's Creed on Assassin's Creed And the Future of Sandbox Games · · Score: 1

'patch the game so when you were in the "Kingdom" horse riding could be done at full speed.' But you can ride the horse at full speed in the "Kingdom." I rode all over the territory with both R-Trigger pulled in (fast) and A-Button pushed (reallyreallyfast), and the horse ran like the dickens. Sure, the guards notice you quickly, but you also outdistance them nearly as fast, and after a set amount of time the "wanted" condition resets. No big deal. And I agree with you on GTA; finding new ways to battle, explore, race, survive - it's all the emergent gameplay which is really intriguing in a robust sandbox.

FWIW, Wil Wheaton has posted an insightful article on this topic. Personally I didn't understand the difference between royalties and residuals, the difference in reasoning behind them, and agree with the criticism he raises about the divisive way this was handled between two ranks of creative professionals.

I suspect it is people who are traveling, or who don't have a computer or TV in a private viewing space in their home. This situation is probably more common in Japan than in North America.

  4. Re:unique? on Conan MMORPG In The Works · · Score: 1

It's likely going to be an extensive set of tutorials, followed by a small story arc that will be somewhat indicative of the MMORPG's gameplay, before turning the player loose in the field. Somehow that seems more likely than some Dusk-'til-Dawn mid-game perspective shift in gameplay. IIRC Anarchy Online's quests are instanced dungeons, so it is likely that they'll keep that style, as it emphasizes more personal single-player and set-group experiences, and seems easier to deal with an "action RPG" that way.

  5. "confirmed" on Xbox360 Name Confirmed · · Score: 1

With an anonymous source, shouldn't the word "confirmed" have some kind of air-quote modifier applied to it? It's not like MS has admitted anything.

  6. artist rights on Coppola Slams Godfather Game · · Score: 1

The situations caused by artist rights and license holders are strange. On one hand we get the delay of the home edition of the animated Heavy Metal movie, where the license for the songs used weren't covered for home video distribution. On the other, we get the studio being able to create an entirely different creation based on the work of a director without his permission, even though the likenesses of any of the actors would have to be individually secured.

MS has announced that, due to their innovative inclusion of a touch screen to control games, their advertising slogan is simply "Touch." They are apparently seeking a popular female Japanese vocalist to appear in their ad campaign.
