  1. Re:Message Loud and Clear... on Diebold Threatens to Pull Out of North Carolina · · Score: 1

The intresting point is that Diebold is the ONLY company complaining. Other manufacturers are complying with the statute, and some of them are also using Windows as a platform. None of them are complaining about the vagueness of the law. Only Diebold is using this as an excuse.

  2. Where is the wild-card search? on Google Desktop 2 Live · · Score: 1

Admittedly, I have not downloaded the new Google Desktop, but in the last two iterations of the Desktop Search tool, it wouldn't do a simple wild-card search! I don't know how other people search for files on their machines, but my memory for file names isn't that good, nor is my spelling, so I'd rather use plain old WinXP search, which can at least use wild-cards, no matter how slow it is to use. To me, that should be part of a search tool's primary functionality, and it is the reason I keep trying and uninstalling the Desktop Search everytime it comes out.

  3. That is a LOT of power on World's Largest Solar Array to use Stirling Engine · · Score: 1

I just did a quick search to see how much 500 megawatts stacks up to other power plants and it's a doosie. According to the California Energy Commission, of the 966 plants in California generating more than .1MW, 500MW puts the new plant in the top 3%. That's ... amazing! Solar power has always had promise, and it's been getting more and more efficient, but to me, it's always seemed to be a niche thing, not really ready to replace giant oil and coal plants - especially when talking about a solar power plant (of course, decentralized power generation with each house running off of solar panels would be ideal, but that's another post). But this...wow...this is plenty of power, and if successful, could really be the start of a feasible way to get off the oil and coal habit...and least I hope so.

  4. Re:Operation Flashpoint Resistance on Good Online FPS Games/Servers For Beginners? · · Score: 1

I completely agree. So few games offer a good co-op feature, and when it comes to playing war simulation games, I'd like to play WITH my friends, not against them. Plus, once you get into it, the flexibility offered in the mission editor can give you a chance to play some pretty amazing, complex and innovative mission. Definitely, Flashpoint is one of the best.

  5. Re:blame canada! on U.S. Says Canada Cares Too Much About Liberties · · Score: 1
There is a latin saying that goes, "The corruption of the best is the worst". When taking a global perspective, our situation in the U.S. is trivial. We still enjoy more freedoms and opportunities than most of the world, and the occasional restriction of liberties is pale in comparison to most other countries with totalitarian, restrictive governments.

And yet, it is the fact that our country is so great that any restriction on our way of life seems so terrible and unjust. Let's face it, the US, with it's long lasting Constitutional protection of person freedom, is one of the best things to ever happen to human society, and ANY stain or tarnish on that ideal, no matter how trivial, is far worse than if some other country with lower ideals began subjugating its citizens it was already repressing.

Personally, I can't stand to see us slip slowly into that kind of mentality. The worst regimes in our modern history didn't pop up overnight, but were created gradually due to a series of small steps that removed power from the people they governed.

  6. Those who are really affected on How Has Post-9/11 Legislation Affected You? · · Score: 1

I would think that those people who are really, directly affected by the new legislation are in no position to talk about it. Incarcerated more than likely.
