Cool. It just reminds me of a talk someone gave about a big project in C++ which had a hellish 20 hour build.:) What's your relationship with Star Trek Phase II? It looks like you write a number of articles for them on their site.
Call the wahhhmbulance! Dude spend any time in.NET and you will learn to appreciate Java. Try porting any non-trivial.NET app to 64 bit. Have fun with that. Once COM comes in to the picture (and you can never avoid &*^*&^*&^ COM even now in the 21st century) you're already fuked.
That's not been my experience. We've been maintaining a large web app under tomcat with Struts for 12 years and have upgraded from Java 3 though Java 7 without any significant compatibility issues. Basically at the beginning of our release cycle we put in the new Java and the new Tomcat and deploy and get to work....
Some people (like toddler Alex Navarro) don't like the slow pace of these kinds of games. Web reviews are useless anyway. Youtube is a much better place to see if a game is good or not.
TotalBiscuit's review is worth watching if you want to decide for yourself.
One of Microsofts many blunders has been discontinuing their workstation releases. After Windows 2000, they haven't released a workstation to go with their server versions. That's one big reason businesses have been balking at upgrading "consumer" OSes. Leave Windows 7, 8 etc for the consumer market and release Windows 2012/2014 Workstation!
Aww the Python toddlers just discovered something the Java guys understood in the 90's. Namely you need to retain backward compatibility to ease transitions forward into new versions. Nice to see you cought up finally.

Well dude if you're maintaining an app this complex what do you want? To be baby sat or something? Java is the least awful thing about your situation.
Then you're an idiot. We Java people appreciate C# being the beta test language for us.

I'm more concerned about stagnation rather than over population. We need new people to have new ideas.
It's right next to the jetpack.
Idiot writers.
No. The purpose of the existence of DirectX is to prevent cross-platform solutions.
Have you managed to get printing to work on Linux yet?

Dude, I still have to *maintain* sites that worked in IE6. I have gray pubic hairs now because of it.
yummy
Machinima sucks anyway. Please avoid. You're much better off with the independent reviewers like Angry Joe and TotalBiscuit.
But that's not a Microsoft solution you insensitive clod!
If I'm an idiot then you're a shit eating monkey.
