Funny, Kip and Hawking seemed to think the bet was between them. I thought it was Penthouse for Hawking, Playboy for Kip, and Kip mentioned that he had lost. These are just personal recollections from a dinner I had with them though. They were discussing Hawking's talk on time travel the next day and whether or not Kip would be against him on his postition.
I did already post dammit. And the same assholes that modded me down can't seem to get their heads out long enough to see the photos when you post it either. At least your post got a 3, I got a 1, and the fellow that replied to one of the blind idiots saying he saw the photos got a goddamn 2!
just venting. I don't get it, did CNN take the photos down for a few hours or something?
Experiment #3, Millikan's oil drop, is widely regarded as the most famous example of cooking data in scientific history. This analysis by David Goodstein gives compelling evidence to the contrary. It in Goodstein claims that some of Millikan's unused data was the most supportive of his theory, and that even if he had used all the data he had gathered, it would not have made his results any less compelling.
(It seems Millikan had many other strikes against him. The question of fraud is brought up on page 3.)
Ars Digita founder Phillip Greenspun has been crusading for MIT to stop charging tuition for some time. I'm just amazed that his name is never brought up with this story, seeing as MIT finally seems to be doing what he has been trying to do for years, and in some small way perhaps moving toward being tuition-free...
You know, it's just that you get halfway through the existence of all things and you look back and think: What's really happened? I think it's time the universe got an earring and a motorcycle...
I'll hop on the wagon and open source some art...

I wrote something to generate pictures based on iterative choices from mutations of a blank image. Thing is, I had my head up my ass when it came to java at the time, and have not gone back to fix it at all.
Y'all can feel free to check out the source and improve the hell out of it...
