Actually you see this reflected in modern systems designs such as Cocoa/OC or Java. They are in themselves virtualized operating systems. Adding classes in these adds reusable functionality to the overall system, much like adding functions in Lisp adds functionality to the system.
Companies will realize that running applications written in Java and scripting languages are slower and take more CPU time and therefore, to the bean counters at least, cost more. We'll all be forced to write in machine compiled languages. I don't want to be forced to program in C++. C is fine, but C++ is so UGLY and HACKED it's just not worth it.
I learned OCaml when I had pneumonia, so I had a lot of time to play with it. It seems like languages are like keyboard layouts. Just as in any other language, the more you can "Think" in that language, the faster and better you can write programs. But for OCaml, there seems to be a higher limit to the writing proficiency than in C, a language I have worked in for many years. It's a bit like the Dvorak keyboard versus the Querty keyboard.
I took a year off and hadn't decided on going to grad school when I did. So I hadn't taken the damn thing. Now I'm applying, and in my appplication process, I am applying to three top schools, all of which require the results of this test. Now I won't even be able to take it before the schools' applications are due. ARG this sucks.
The text of this bill doesn't prevent the RIAA from installing software/spyware on the computers they hack and doesn't give the site they hack any rights at all. Depending on the skill of their techies and how many computers they hack, the RIAA could easily use this power to set up a single point of ownership over the US portion of the internet and attack anybody anywhere with overwhelming force with their legion of commandeered computers.
I would just like to say to any Congressmen reading this: This bill royally sucks.

Oh man. It's only in draft and it's already two years behind!
Man. If I could get IP working over USB, my Beowulf cluster would scream! 480MB a second, here I come!
No. The test was cancelled for the US as well. Read GRE's site here
