Look, one of the thing I like about Linus as a person is that, he walks the walk before talking that talk.
Sure, make them files the same size, make the same checksum, make the same filename... we all know the better version of fake DeCSS can exist. But how about sending some fixes/info to help the lad who started the thing?
Sun is not going to make it. Sun Ray is the stupidest idea for corporate because of the fact that no employee wants to work in an office with a little Sun Ray. Sure, thier servers are good. But are they good enough to beat S/390? no. as PC servers get better and better, thier maket zone is shrinking day by day, no matter what thier marketting is tryingto tell you. Hell, I hate MS too, but unlike Sun, MS don't have an "attitude" problem. (We are so good.We are too good for you.)
Look. the ENTIRE stock market climbed like insane in the last five years, not just Sun. In fact, any computer related company has great growth.
Please do not forget that Sun is not the only company that makes high end servers. IBM's S390 is growing rapidly in the past few years, too, no doubt due to e-commerce.
One thing that guarantees Sun set is Sun's attitude towards the community and developers. In this bussiness, technological excellence does not guarantee success, attitude does. Microsoft and Linux never has that "I'm too good for you" attitude like Sun.
I did not understand Linus' problems with Sun until the first two hours that I have to deal with Sun's people. They ARE idiots.
Did anyone think PC will push Macs out of the market? Well, Mac wouldn't have survived without MS.
Solution: it is NOT about graphics drivers, never was, never will be. It is the display manager's job.
We only need to change the window manager to make 90% of the things look right. (the rest is really graphics libs and app developer's job) All we need is to write window managers that displays icons and text at a larger scale.
I suggest IBM to send Alfredo two of these monitors!! Don't sent them to Hemos, dummy, Hemos is just a gadget freak, Hemos doesn't code window managers!!! WindowMaker is by FAR the most popular window manager on UNIX. (Don't you think Alfredo deserves it anyway?)
Look, 30-50 shells can certainly generate big traffice but they also can be pin point in a few hours. It was mentioned that there existed attacks from a thousand computers. This means it's due to an OS hole of some sort, because no scrip kiddies have patience to crack hundreds of machines before an attack.
1. no annoying banners. 2. no biased moderations. 3. real good technical people are on usenet more than web interfaced sites. that means more help. 4. speed. and clean interface. Web interface is served by one site, (how slow is slashdot?) usenet is served by thousands of servers. 5. Usenet can be highly specialized. There is a great sense of small community because no one has to pay for the database server and web construction.
Once, I typed "HA HA HA" and the nice people on opera group told me that the operetta I was looking for is "the bat". That is after I listened to hundreds of samples and couldn't find it. Where can you find such specialized information? the usenet.
The only thing i'm worried about is that these days, new comers don't really know how to use usenet anymore.

With proper filtering and searching, usenet is quite pleasant. Unfortunately there are NO good usenet clients for unix. the best being slrn. ( Wine + Forte Agent. is the best solution so far. please pay for agent, they are a great product and they need some revenue.)

The currect Taiwan Administration once ruled the entire China. Sepcifically, from 1911-1949. If you don't believe me, take a look at the Chinese national flag and national anthem during this period and you will know that it's exactly the same as those of Taiwanese today. As a matter of fact, a huge chunk of Taiwan population is moved from China during 1947-1949, right after WWII.
I can tell you, that Taiwanese look more like Chinese than many actual Chinese people, such as those close to Turkey boundary.
Taiwanese would love to be Chinese again if China is as great as America. We are the same race, we speak the same language, we look indistinguishable. And, the most important factor is that Taiwan is too small of an island to build ANYTHING of a big scale. We cannot build cars, for example. We can only build chips and little stuff like PCs because of the resource contraint. That is why lots of Taiwanese bussiness invest captical in China before the stupid Chinese govn't tighten up the policy. But, who would want to be ruled by communist these days? As a Taiwanese, I feel that the Communist govenment is poor, corrupt, violent, and most of all, DUMB.
On the scale of 0 to 9, if 0 means completely capitalist, such as Hong Kong, 9 means completely socialist, then the U.S.A would sit around 3.5, Taiwan will be aroung 1.5. China will be maybe 8. After 50 years of such difference, the idealogy is too different for a Taiwanese to even carry a conversation with a Chinese.
After I moved to the US, I started to hang out with Chinese, and my viewpoint changed. Chinese have things that Taiwanese would love to have - resources. This is the same reason that Japanese islanders invaded China during World War II. Chinese also need Taiwanese for things that Taiwanese are very good at, such as human capital- Taiwanese are highly educated, with zero illiteracy. Unfortunately the political situation in China makes it impossible for ANY country to coorporate with China.
For the past 50 years, Taiwanese govn't has always claimed that Taiwan wants to be back as China--peacefully, and after Chinese start to develop some democracy. But the wait is too long; Chinese govn't seems hopeless. Not much progress is made during the past 50 years and we don't think we will see much progress in the next 50. (Which is the truth that my Red Chinese friend despise.)
One thing is clear: the day Taiwanese declare independence will be the day Chinese declares war. Some Taiwanese wants to fight, but I don't. Me and my families would prefer to enjoy good economy and peace.

The indian programmers you see are minorities. The cream of the crop. Consider the population and the fact that Indians speaks English, that's not too surprising. If Chinese high society speak English, you would see a lot more Chinese programmers, too. The English speaking part of India has contributed to this population you have seen. Had they all speak Indian instead of English, there wouldn't be as many Indian programmers. In this sense, population counts.
The word "Super Power" just shows Indian's typical point of view - not acknoledging the fact that India needs a lot of work. There is some foundamental problems that source back to the colonization of India, and this "super power" term shows how serious it is. The entire country constantly shows typical signs of low self-esteem. I strongly believe that Linux or free software has nothing to do with it. I know this ia a bid much to ask for a teenager, but we don't have a choice do we? I strongly suggest EFF to send lawyers to be on thier side during the interview. Another notion is, We NEED someone to write a REALLY good flyer so we can print them and spread it around and let people know what the case is about. I don't trust ABC. ABC is owned by DISNEY, what do you expect?
WEll excuse me. i thought this was over debated in the last 4 years and again and again and again and again... if you havn't heard all the arguments, maybe you havn't really been around much, if at all . This community has debated is through. through, i tell ya. then the same arguement comes up again and again and again and again and again... that constitute a flambiat to me.
Usually one guy says: Kevin commited a crime and deserves this. and then i can just cut and paste all the flaim replies from there.
maybe these days slashdot is stock brokers and lawyers because many good and NEW arguement are coded as flaimbait while these repeating arguements are allowed.
That means Kevin cannot go to a college. That's a great reason to appeal. As of not being able to leave the country... maybe China, Cuba will strike a deal with him and he can work there as a Net Warior against the US?
