  1. iPhone 5 CPU clock speed error on iPhone 5 GeekBench Results · · Score: 1

The Geekbench results show a reading of 1.02 GHz. How that could be mistaken for 1.2 GHz instead of 1.0 GHz is beyond me, as the article text stated when I typed this.

  2. After all the publicity Stuxnet created... on Precursor To the Next Stuxnet? · · Score: 2

... a development like this seemed inevitable, it was only a question of when it would happen again - the mere existence of Stuxnet proved that a malware attack on an industrial control system is not only plausible, but effective if done right. Furthermore, I'm sure the attackers realize that they can cause a lot of damage without ever having to visit a site physically. This fact makes such attacks more difficult than usual to defend against, and not helping matters is that not all industrial control vendors are even aware of security problems with their devices; let alone the time it takes to get a patch tested, validated, and deployed.

  3. Re:Spotlight on Apple to Release first Tiger Update · · Score: 1

I'm experiencing another Spotlight issue. When I try to make a new Smart Folder, change the Kind to Others..., then start typing the kind I want, I get the spinning beach ball while the list of available kinds is loaded. Spotlight is supposed to be fast - I shouldn't be seeing the beach ball when creating a search query! The Spotlight menu item in the upper-right corner works as expected, although the search results aren't quite "instant". Spotlight also gets confused if you have a Smart Folder open while you edit filenames in the Smart Folder or move stuff to a location you've marked for Spotlight not to index. This is indicated by the Searching spinner displayed forever - it never seems to get the results, at least after I waited 30 seconds.

  4. Re:Install script is still stupidly written on Apple Offers Mac OS X 10.3.7 Update · · Score: 1

"Optimizing" has nothing to do with defragmentation. The optimizing process updates prebindings. "Prebinding" basically inserts the locations of all the various external libraries a given program uses in a special location within the program. Doing this makes applications launch faster, since they don't have to go searching for their external library files.

  5. Re:Not to worry then on 'Opener' Malware Targets OS X · · Score: 3, Interesting

I agree with everyone else. This is nothing more than a Trojan Horse - and in order to do anything meaningful it needs lots of privileges, like becoming root. There's nothing seriously worrying in this (Mac OS X is STILL without a virus), because, as mentioned in the article, all the stuff it does can be reversed easily (even more easily if you clone your HD daily like I do).

  6. Re:Nowhere did I see discussion on Apple & HD- on Gizmodo Declares Blu-Ray Winner · · Score: 1

I'd think Apple would have incentive to at least support, if not endorse, Blu-Ray going forward, since Blu-Ray not only supports Apple's preferred codec (H.264) - it also has much more potential for recording data on computers than HD-DVD because of the increased capacity (even if we ignore the fact that Blu-Ray discs can have more layers than HD-DVDs - yet another Blu-Ray advantage). That doesn't necessarily mean Apple should ignore HD-DVD - if it ends up the clear winner, Apple should support it too. It supports H.264 at least - something Apple wants to see.

  7. Re:Windows Beta site getting hammered on Windows XP SP2 Goes Gold · · Score: 1

I hardly EVER post here... Anyway, I can't get in to the Windows Beta site. It says I need an "MPC" ID, and I have no idea what I need to do to get one. Oh well - I guess I'll wait for the release on Windows Update like everyone else...
