At some point you already have similar economies of scale. Also you get direct access to those folks, unlike the outsourced staff.
If you have less than 100 workers go for it, over that and it may well be better done in house.

I mentioned that because we looked to solve a staffing shortage once via contract company. We wanted a 1 hour response time, 4 was the best they offered and it cost more than hiring another worker.
They are working for your business and 10 others. They have no incentive to treat you any better, nor do they have any need to do better than the 4 hour response time or whatever the SLA says. The moment supporting you costs more than you pay forget about it.
Not only do they have those employees but they also need to make a profit on them. So it will not be cheaper either.

Wow 512MB of RAM, he will be able to start Vanilla Minecraft and then not touch it for fear of OOM. Start looking at what a server with 8+GB costs.
Video cards, by a huge margin.
You can get a mutli TB drive for $100, a barely passible GPU costs that much.

Minecraft is very CPU heavy. I doubt you can get even 8GB of ram for that much. A heavily used minecraft server would be happier with a lot more.
Either you want java or something like it or you are going to tie the web to some architecture. I think you can see the flaws with both those plans.
If you move the software into hardware that does not make it opensource. Trusted computing cannot be opensource, it must hide data in the TPM.

Why would you ban caffeine for kids?
Besides why would you remove caffeine from sodas if you banned it for kids? Would you not just sell a decaf version and a regular version?
