The Moto X was supposed to be a device with high amounts of post Google input. It is a high priced mediocre mid range device. They still cater to carriers unlike Apple. They need to compete with the 5S, One X and S4. Instead they are competing with last years product.
Moto needs to copy Apple in some things. Make 1 main device, sell the old one or a cheaper version as well. Max 2-3 devices. Refresh them once a year. This lets third parties make all kinds of doodads for the device. Put them on all carriers and update them at the same time. If need be get the FCC to lean on Verizon's C block requirements. Other than that, unlock the bootloaders and make donations of devices to the popular mod groups. Most users will never care, but the PR among the tech crowd would be huge and they influence other buyers.
Call center work is a great example of this. Can any idiot do it? Yes. Should he? No. In a normal call center you have hundreds of folks and small percentage of them take half of the calls or more. Those folks end up leaving since they can. This kills profitability.
If instead you pay a little more, you can hold onto those good workers and have maybe 20% of the head count you had before and increase profitability.
Low wage high turnover jobs are often like this. Employees that can leave will, the employer has high costs for turnover reasons as well as high head count and instead of doing the logical thing and finding better workers he instead keeps lowering pay and hiring more people.
At some point I fear we will run out of Grade-D jobs.
I think though at that point we likely will hire people to do tasks that could be automated only for the imperfection they cause. "Of course the bushes at my house are not perfectly trimmed round, I paid a person to do it" you will hear at a dinner party. Soon enough HOAs will require human work for this or that just for the appearance.
They would simply ban words like that from meetings. It would be to improve customer premium experience or some similar horseshit.
The lack of a decent way to create perfect market competition is what drives me to support what you might call leftist policies. Simply as a way to address needs that our non-perfect market fails to.
