    Nearly no one uses internal call centers. The costs are just to high for a resource that sees high seasonal need changes and lots of idle resources since it can be very bursty.

    Then this could work quite well.

    The problem is they wanted to be everything to everyone and as such ended up being nothing for no one.

    They can sell at different prices and deal with importation or they can somehow add some value to the more expensive sales. Maybe delivering them for free and on time, or adding in some service.

    What they should not be able to do is demand that my tax dollars make them wealthy.

    They have no right to make a profit, only a right to try to.

    More reason to abolish or at least severely restrict copyright. If you want to sell a text book cheaper in a poorer country change the chapters around, change the example problems at least do some work to make it unsuitable for other markets, rather than demanding society pay to keep making you wealthy.

    I am unwilling to believe that unpasteurized milk is a bigger black market activity than illegal drug sales without some evidence.

    As compared to the over complicated cafe standards?I was merely suggesting a more transparent method to do the same thing. Gas prices will soon exceed $6/gallon we will not turn into somalia.

    Those modern plastic cars are far safer than what we all drove 20 years ago.

    None, that was not what I said.

    I merely stated that those kinds of degree mills lead to uneducated workers who are useless if anything outside the ordinary occurs.

    I actually did do packet inspection at a university for a class. It included 100+ pages of reports that I wrote detailing how protocols actually worked vs what the documentation various vendors and what the RFC said. The typical assignment took about 10-20 hours in the lab or at home doing the same thing and probably nearly that long to write the reports. That level of work is not going to be done at a diploma mill or community college or tech school.

    That seems like a simple thing to fix, you make less than X, you get money to help you buy fuel. I would prefer we gave those people free bus/train tickets, but most of the USA has worse public transit than a third world country.

    My Ultra5 seems to run Unix just fine.

    You think enforcing fuel economy standards will turn us into the USSR?

    I have a much better idea, tax gasoline at $5/gallon.
    Add a dollar a year until you get to that level, so people have time to adjust. Consumer demand will move to more efficient vehicles.

    Which leads to the contractos I have to deal with. They have no idea how anything actually works, just the knowhow of which button to press when in some program. If anything breaks they are lost, firing up wireshark and watching packets on the wire is totally beyond them. They would not even know what to look for.

    Why would you need fixed decimal at all?

    Can't you keep track of pennies instead of dollars and just avoid that whole issue?

    If we did not have patents and Windows as the dominate desktop we would not have to deal with FAT in 2012. Either your camera uses that or the vendor is stuck with paying microsoft more or trying to get users to install a driver for a proper filesystem. All those options are pretty bad.

    The cold black vacuum is not going to take a lot of heat. There are few particles for that heat to go to.

    While space itself is cold, it makes a very good insulator. So you might want to rethink that sterling engine.

    Does that look at nickel from recycling or from the ground?

    The batteries are all going to be recycled so a high one time CO2 cost to get the nickel out of the ground could be a pretty misleading.
