For $3k I would be interested in one for a second car. Something that I can drive in the winter on city streets and not worry about rotting out or wrecking would be great since it would be so cheap to replace.

Talk about worrying about the wrong problems. Why worry about how this is regulated before anyone can even come close to doing it?
First come up with a way to mine an asteroid, then you can worry about the legal semantics.

Expecting to outsource my job then charge me so much I cannot afford the medicine I need because I live in a wealthier nation is not charity nor altruism.
The reality is a third party call center with multiple clients can do a better and cheaper job. Their agents are talking more calls per hour and doing a better job than some fresh hire at a company that looks at call centers as just another cost.
I am not talking about foreign call centers. I mean outsourcing inside the USA.

The kernel is still GPL. Anything android devs do there has to be released. They will be stuck sticking to user space drivers, like they do now.

The time is coming when intel GPUs will be good enough for even gamers. They already good enough for Source engined games.
Much like moores law killed sound cards the dedicated GPU is not going to be around forever.
L4D2 will run fine on intel, portal 2 already does.
