    Both groups want the law changed. I see nothing that says NORML leadership smokes pot. I imagine they would like too, but I would imagine many don't due to the law.

    I am saying if you espouse a political position that correlates with a crime you probably should get a little extra scrutiny.

    I don't think any of these groups should be tax exempt at all. I think that only charities should get that, and they should be required to give away the vast majority of their money to be considered as such.

    Being investigated is not retaliation.

    If I say in public that I like to kill people and want to do it again. The cops should probably check on what I have been doing.

    I am pretty sure anti gay marriage groups already do not believe in equal protection under the law.

    Near me we had an old lady crash into a restaurant. She killed two diners and one waitress. This left the child at that table an orphan. She somehow confused the gas and brake. I cannot fathom how that can happen. If you or I did that we would be living in an 8x8 for decades, she is voluntarily giving up her license and that is the end of it.

    I agree, I also think it has been blown out of proportion. From what we have seen of costs and more information coming out, I think the program is far more limited than most foaming at the mouth posters believe.

    I am not sure what you mean about that last thing. The IRS investigating anti-tax activists, is good policy. The DEA should probably keep tabs on NORML leaders as well. If you come out and say you oppose law X then I expect the agency in charge of enforcement will at least give you an extra look.

    I think unconstitutional spying is far more betraying democracy than releasing some information. Democracy without an informed populace cannot work.

    I was not comparing the relative moralities only the headcount. Terrorism is simply too rare to dedicate so much resources too. It would be like the government spending billions to protect the populace from lightning.

    Why don't we prosecute unsafe/elderly drivers? That would save far more lives and not risk loss of freedom.

    If IT had a budget it would not be the roadblock. No I can't setup another site for you, since you won't pay for more tapes/storage/whatever and you will bitch when I don't have backups.

    It has been that way forever.

    That is only part of it. They are also responsible for lots of stuff you don't like. Like compliance with regulation and sometimes that means telling the customer no.

    No, you can't bring your infected POS laptop in running XP and no updates or anti-virus and plug into the network. When they say that you forget the service is to all the users, not just to you.

    Go price out that stuff with real SLAs and see what you find. At that point we found real employees you can fire are cheaper.

    You can have both you know.

    IT that works with users, but is managed by IT. Not sure how well that works in megacorps, but seems fine from where I stand. The best part is then he can be moved around to where he is needed and is not sitting idle just because he is technically dept A headcount and Dept A does not need him this moment, but will not let him work for Dept B.

    Today we are all going back to virtual desktops and in 5-10 people will want real desktops, then back again. The wheel keeps on turning.

    At some point there has to be servers in racks, it can't be cloud all the way down.

    IT today is about configuration management, deployment and managing virtual and real infrastructure, scripting automation etc. You just described my day.

    I never said that either.
    Simply that the current gen Sony product lets me do this, and that I doubt this new thing will. The current xbox does not work for me for this reason.

    Actually most/many Amish sects now allow prepaid cell phones. This is because they do not involve debt, can be bought from stores they already go to and do not require any infrastructure to be built on their land.

    I think you are confusing the Amish with Mennonites. They do not wear anything that is overly decorative, as that is vanity. This modesty extends to their vehicles.

    No, the bible speaks out against usury. The Koran forbids this as well. So they don't accept it. Instead they take the same loans that devout Muslims take. These are loans without interest, but instead other forms of fees. So for instance I might lend you $10,000 with $1000 down for 5 years, and you just pay the $10,000 back over that term. The $1000 down does not go against the principle but instead is my fee for this loan.

    That is just you not understanding.
    They have no problem with electricity, the problem is being tied to the grid. Some take this so far as to only use air powered equipment. To remove any temptation for grid tie.
