I breath a sigh of relief every time someone combats the "use open source" with "blah blah blah, AutoCAD, blah blah blah". It's like you're reading my mind.
AutoCAD has barely acceptable performance when running on *great* hardware, let alone a virtualized instance or whatever concoction the avoid-windows-at-all-costs crowd would come up with. Not to say the grandparent-commenter falls into this category but very often people do.
When people step into my computer room they usually note the PC, macbook, G5 and solaris box and give me the 50 questions. My usual response is "AutoCAD, travel, Final Cut/Logic/everyday use & ZFS storage pool".
when someone ejects their card prematurely, you need to have a flashing red light and a siren going off shrieking "you're an idiot! step away from the voting machine! please learn to follow directions!" on repeat.
of course - making people wait for their verifible printed ballot might work too.
which, i do not know how anyone would implement an anonymous paper ballot... maybe just have it print out a bunch of squiggles a la the standard UPS label so in the event of a conflict someone can take their ticket to the counter, check the vote and receive a simple yes/no of whether or not that vote was counted... obviously not say "who" it counted towards, just that it was counted and was recorded in the system... i dunno.
yeah that did look promising back in the day but (humorously enough)... someone we all know is confirming that the G/OBSD project is dead/dying...:/
maybe someday.

What's amusing is that when I read the parent thread I said to myself, "Nah, that's Gentoo..." And I say that as a person who only uses OpenBSD and Gentoo (as far as free OS's are concerned).
If you can't afford to buy a lottery ticket, why then are you buying it? If you have a "problem", then I would say that the rest of the world is profiting from your "problem". Essentially reducing you to an example for others. Taking advantage of the weak who don't have the employ of the willing strong to protect them is not only our national pastime. It's our duty.
Why not just make a box for each candidate and make each voter place some kind of anonymous ballot in the box of who they're voting for. And, just to make sure that someone doesn't accidentally mix the ballots together during the counting process the machine could mark off who you voted for on the ballot. Pretty simple, no smudges no "questionable marks"...
Make it really obnoxious too - large colorful print. Ask each person two or three times if they're POSITIVE that's who they want to vote for...
Then at the end of the day all you'd have to do is count up how many ballots in each box. Presto! We have a winner.
And then, if someone comes up after they vote and says "I'm not sure if I did it right, I think I put my vote in the wrong slot." You shoot them in the face, point blank and broadcast it on live television.

> Will corporate America allow their information technology assets to be thus put at risk of compromise?
Yes. The answer to that is a resounding YES. Why? You know why - because corporate "America" is terrified of what would happen if they didn't. They would get public disapproval - and that isn't going to line their pockets. And what's worse is the public is too consumed by propaganda to know any better. These are people who are reactive, lazy and slow. I'll even be cynical and say they're stupid and greedy. That is the definition of corporate America. Lazy, greedy people.
They will put their computers at risk. They will put the entire American network infrastructure in jeopardy. And I will laud every single cracker out their white/black and otherwise who makes them pay for their filthy actions and pitiful existence.
afaik, youre only barred from linking to/writing about gambling sites that arent specificially regulated by state/federal law. ie: gambling sites that are hosted in other countries.
the REAL problem with the law where it says youre not allowed to write about/link to these sites. fuck that. what really sucks is that i'm not gonna be young enough to ENJOY the next civil war. where the people get tired of being fucked in the ass by lawmakers... and the streets become open war. its probably gonna take another 100-200 years and another 25-50 worthless, scum bag presidents for the people of this nation to collectively say "fuck that" and start killing everyone who even suggests any encroachments upon the rights our forefathers died for.
