I have the netsignia 210 smart card reader / programmer by litronic, it is a serial device.
I have seen the native support for windows login in win 2k and Windows XP claims to support it w/o 3rd party software but I have yet to see it work with the above reader. Litronic wants you to purchase "netsign", which is around 70$ per liscense.
If you find a way or get win xp to login with a smartcard / pin let me know.
There is an open source movement for linux (might work for most unix os's) that was started by the university of michigan. (look at my ask slashdot from a little while back about xp login, there is a reply about the UM soultion).
One cross platform thought would be to have an Active directory / domain controller for smart card login (yea ms sucks I know).
Also lookin to the new smartcards that have thumbprint scanners on them (instead of the pin), they came out this year at comdex from siemens.
I have not purchased a cd (unless it was blank) in the last 3 years. Record companies are no longer need to *tell* us what is *good* and take a fee for this *service*.
If you really want to support the music you love, then goto that concert. Concerts are where most of the money is made (% wise anyway) for muscians.
Sorry, You've got this backwards. Any cordless phone, (there may be an exception on 900mhz), is LEGAL to listen to, while it is illegal to intercept ANY cell or pcs calls. Most cordless phones operate on what the FCC has branded a public home freq. I don't know the proper FCC regulations on 900mhz though. Any one who says it is legal (in the united states) to listen to cell phone calls does not know what they are talking about.

Yea, I love the Idea of smart cards.
Here at auburn we don't have the luxury of smartcard login.
What does UM do for windows?
Looks like we found something linux can do for free that windows can barley do for pay.....
Exactly,
The pin is designed to simply delay the use of the stolen card long enough to cancel the card.
I.E. It is like a hold down timer for distance vector based routing, like IGRP. Execpt a hold down timer helps stop routing loops.
That was the whole point.
Siemens came out with a new thumbprint smart card this year at comdex. You could use the card as the username and the thumbprint as the password . . .
