Imagine if we could link a pair of telescopes from the Earth to the moon, giving an antenna separation of about 239,000 miles, or 30 times the diameter of the Earth.
I agree that knowledge of assembly language helps in understanding the way computers work. These days, that understanding is not critical, nor even necessary in writing good programs. Instead of spending a semester or two honing assembly language skills, why not become specialized in a subset of a popular language?
I also get a little frustrated when I see businesses, etc, helping "less than smart" people. For instance, I feel that I am a fairly decent resume writer, so it bugs me when challenged people get professional help with their resumes. I guess it doesn't matter *too* much since it all surfaces to the top in the interview.
