They did offer the standard in-store preorder of the consoles before they did these bundles. I think they are just trying to rake in on the folks who missed out the first time around.
Except, if you check ebgames.com's price for the Wii SD card it is $60 for the 1GB and $100 for the 2GB version. Plus, I believe it's $15 for the subscription when you sign up at their store. So...
Wii Console, $250
Six Games, $300
1GB SD card, $60
Wiimote, $40
Magazine Subscription, $15
1 year product replacement, $35
Plus the 1GB Wii SD card is expensive. $60 for 1GB and $100 for 2GB?! You can pick up the same thing for $20 (1GB) and $40 (2GB) on newegg.com. Unless there is something special about Nintendo's SD card that I'm not aware of.
I haven't played too far into the game yet myself, only about 2.5 hours. At first I hated the combat system (MMORPGs are not my cup of tea), but it's growing on me how fast you can get in and out of combat. Also, the non-random battles are nicer.

Final Fantasy X was a pretty good game IMO. I'm hoping I enjoy this one at least as much. Though I did like Dragon Quest 8 quite a bit so my opinion probably doesn't count much for you;)

How Many Windows?

One of my friends is really bad at cleanup, he's like a virus to his own computer. He'll often have 30+ browsers open, 30+ IM messages, 10+ notepads (many empty ones even), 10+ calculators, 10+ Dos windows, 10+ putty windows (some timed out), Outlook with a freakin huge mailbox and dozens of reminders waiting for him to ignore, ftp programs that aren't being used anymore, and probably more. I'm very surprised his computer can handle it, especially since it's a laptop (it's stationary and always on.) Usually he's only really using *maybe* 10 of those open windows, he just opens a new one and is terrible at going back and closing ones not in use. I don't know how he can work like that. I go to his computer and he has like 3+ rows of tiny icons even though they are grouped, which makes it even more troublesome it would seem. When he IMs me he'll usually do it in a conversation window that he still had open from like 20 days previous (It's IPSwitch's IM so you can have many windows open to the same person at the same time.) He's also one of those guys that when he runs out of room for icons on his desktop he makes a folder called Old Desktop and throws them all in. So he'll be searching "Old Desktop", "Old Desktop2", etc for things lol. I don't know how he can get anything done like that, but it works for him (his office looked kind of like his computer, sometimes impossible to walk in.)
It is true that good things can come in small packages. Nintendo never has the largest capacity media (at least since the N64) and some of their games are my favorite. With the Wii they are going to have the same capacity of the 360, but since the Wii doesn't do HD it will be more usable space for gameplay and not just graphics.
I do think the Blu-ray drive will end up being a good thing for Sony, but that it will take a few years for it to happen. Heck, I know a mostly non-gamer (plays one PC game a year or less) that wants to buy one because of how cheap it is as an HD player, and the gaming part of it is a bonus for him.
The larger capacity is not just for high-resolution cut scenes. Resistance: Fall of Man is using over 12 Gigs just for their level data (with compression.) HD video could be used for more than cut scenes though, like making of videos and other bonus content. I beleive that is being done with R:FoM too.
I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I heard that only 2 employees in a store could preorder a system and that they were not allowed to sell it on Ebay.
That's odd. They had more than twice as many Wii's (32) than PS3's (14) available at my gamestop for pre-order. Although my EB Games had 14 for each. Both these stores are in the same mall.
I don't believe they are doing pre-orders on all of the initial shipment though. They are being extremely cautious because of the 360 fiasco. They would rather not have to turn anyone away that pre-ordered.
That would be cool, probably won't happen though. I'm hoping they put something new in the virtual console games, like enhanced graphics, extra levels, secrets, etc so even if you have played them before there is something new about it. Knowing Nintendo, they will release say Zelda I and then 6 months or so later release Zelda I enhanced. They love to get people to buy things all over again by dressing it up a little bit.
I heard Sony actually let the retailers set the price for the PS3 in Japan. Stores selling them for $1000, $1200, etc. If it's true that has to piss some people off. But it would help prevent the people from Ebaying them.

Plus it appears that you'll be able to store music for it and use it within some games, like excite truck.

Has anyone noticed that Wii could be pronounced Wheee!
:)
I'm half expecting to hear Mario say "Wheeeeeee!" when you turn on the Wii.
Sure looked like there was an interface on the top of the Google Earth-like software. It is a very cool technology though.

"i love the power glove. its so bad."
But in that case it was actually true! Kind of like saying, "I love E.T. on the Atari 2600. It's so bad."
