    Scary...

I totally aggree! There's no way I'd buy a computer controlled gadget to control my vision.

Imagine this crap crashing and producing garbage(eg. a all-white/black screen on the helmet screen)!!!

And all this while I am taking a turn at 120kph on the highway.

This is destined to be a failure, the only people who will buy this crap are morons who seem to think that listening to your iPod while you drive on your bike is cool...

Perfect is Good's worst enemy. You don't need to implement the PERFECT solution, just something that delivers 80% of your expectations, which most of the time is 99.9% of the client's expectations. If you try to reach 99.9% of your expectations, good luck!

And being quick does not necessarily mean being sloppy. The important thing is to try to organize the tasks that you have to do and do some simple documentation. Simple as in a few pages to help you and everyone else to understand what you're doing. If you don't have the time to write a couple of pages it's not quick & dirty solution it's a cheap one and you don't need to bother.

Working as a contractor I have to meet deadlines like you but I always notify my clients when they ask for the impossible, or rather very difficult for the time schedule given. Of course most of the time they pay accordingly... Doing the same stuff in 10 days instead of 30 does not mean they pay less, rather the opposite! :-)

First, I admit I was not very clear about the title 'IT Manager'. I meant that I work in a IT company and 'manage' things. I am NOT a business oriented person, rather a science/programming oriented person. I, like most of the posters who were annoyed by my post, do coding for a living and I don't get paid extra for the extra work I do for a project. I _know_ I have good ideas about doing things and that's why they keep me. I love Linux, I love Debian, I am a Debian Developer myself, the only one in Greece, check markos@debian.org, if you don't believe me.

This one goes also for the guys that felt threatened by my question. I want to DO things. I'm sick with dealing with stupid web sites and useless databases, I want to create something that I like, but I also want to survive. And I don't want to take orders from ignorant businessmen who buy porsches with MY work. This is to make things clear. And yes, it's their money that they risk, but after setting on my own a network infrastructure of 80 people, 12 servers, 1 custom C++ application project on ACE, 20 websites on Zope, custom developed linux firewalls, virtual domain email infrastructure, doing the support for 80 people, cleaning up virii, fixing PCs, oh not to mention helping out in setting up Linux clusters, I somehow feel it is unfair to call me a 'smartass' manager who's trying to get a few ideas from others. All this work, and I haven't got more than a meager -for my standards, others might find it acceptable- salary. I have a lot of ideas of my own, but I am no marketing specialist. If I was, I wouldn't be on slashdot, but on businessweek.com. That's why I ask people to help me. I haven't asked for a business plan, nor complete ideas, just general directions. I would have no problem giving similar help to a person, because I know that an idea may be the start, but you also have to actually MATERIALIZE the idea to earn money.

Having said that, I really want to thank all the positive answers and all the kind persons that offered me some really valuable advise. I intend to keep notes of everything important said here, and I will try to use it.
