  1. Ok, I get the idea... on Australia Plans to Censor the Internet · · Score: 1

    1) Somebody organizes a peaceful protest

    2) Riot cops beat the shit out of everybody

    3) Government closes down the whole internet. Oh, at least those evil anarchist sites, and other political sites that do not support the current government, or whatever.

That's the way it goes. If you have some alternative views on your website, you might just as well delete your files NOW.

Yes, this has worked in China and other nice places. Why should we have more democracy and freedom of speech than chinese people? Makes me wonder...

  2. Communicator Doom! on Doom Ported to Nokia phone · · Score: 3, Informative

Doom was actually earlier ported to a Nokia phone, namely the Communicator 9210. There was also a C64 Emulator available to Communicator, which might be a lot cooler and have an endless amount of classic games.

Unfortunately I had an earlier 9110 model of Communicator, but it had a cool emulator for old Infocom text adventure games as well as Space Invaders.

  3. There definitively are applications for this thing on Dr. Robot Watches Over Home And More · · Score: 1

I think that robots like this should be used to keep an eye on people who are a danger to our profits, ie. foreigners, political dissidents, criminals, other suspicious people.

These new robots should be smaller in order to avoid being noticed by these enemies of society. They should also be armed with some kind of a nice little weapon in order to incapacitate these people if they actually try to do something.

    Meanwhile, i think that i am going to start a www.security-robots-for-the-preservation-of-capita lism-and-democracy.com b2b site.

  4. Even worse than Sid Vicious... on Never Mind The 25th Anniversary · · Score: 1

Yup, G.G. Allin has to be the worst punk idiot, ever. Even worse than the original punk idiot prototype, Sid Vicious. What we would need would be more Jello Biafra -type loudmouth anarchists. Millions of them, walking around streets, surfing the internet, disturbing WTO meetings.

I gotta say that Sex Pistols still rocks, sometimes. Too bad, it seems like my days of drinking beer with punks in the park are over. :(

And don't you forget Oi Polloi. :)

  5. Ozzy? on Superhero Smackdown · · Score: 1

Throw Ozzy into the ring. It would be very entertaining to see if he manages to stay on his feet while they are playing Paranoid to introduce him.

  6. Secret Kryptonite plant? on Superhero Smackdown · · Score: 1

About the original question, my bet is on Superman. Batman is an ordinary mortal, Superman is basically invulnerable. Perhaps there is a secret Kryptonite plant in the Batcave. You never know. Maybe Superman should strike before Batman gets to prepare his Kryptonite.

This reminds me of a report that Saddam Hussein has challenged George W. Bush to a duel. This way global power politics could be solved without civilian casualties. You know, those two proud men duelling it out in the desert, with the music of Ennio Morricone playing in the background.

I don't know if either of these "superheroes" has any problems with morality. This would be more like a struggle between Joker and Lex Luthor. Like the guy who says funny things against the guy who prepares secret weapons.

According to an earlier Slashdot news story Saddam actually has the amazing ability of reading his e-mail so i bet he has some other secret geek-powers as well. Perhaps this conflict could be solved by a flame war? What do you think?

  7. Re:p2p alternative media? on Freenet 0.5 Released · · Score: 2, Interesting

Well, actually we will soon have a new law of publicity here in Finland. This law means that all discussion boards etc. should be monitored and there must in every case be a person (ie. editor) responsible for the discussion published on the board. So if somebody publishes some slander about somebody the "editor" of the discussion board would be personally responsible for it. This would naturally be disastrous for open publishing web sites like Indymedia.

Yes, you are right. Freedom of speech is seriously threatened. However I feel that this type of limitation to the freedom of speech will not work. If there should be a serious attack against freedom of speech we would just find a way to avoid it.

  8. p2p alternative media? on Freenet 0.5 Released · · Score: 1

This is really interesting. In the rather unlikely situation that freedom of speech will be seriously impaired in western nations we should build a p2p alternative media and share video, audio and articles with other people. This means that internet would still be allowed. Well, at least internet _is_ very important for international business these days, which means it would not be closed? What about a war situation? In the Soviet Union they used to copy subversive zines ("Samisdats") and spread the copies around. This is why the Soviet authorities were quite concerned about allowing computers and copy machines to be used by the citizens.
