  1. Re:Finally on U.S. National Do-Not-Call Registry On the Way? · · Score: 1

all you need to do is tear up the applications and send them back to the company in their own postage-paid envelopes. even if it doesn't DO anything, it gives a little 'fsck you' back to the credit card company -- personal victories. :)

  2. Equating drug history with credit history?? on Dealing with Employers Who Perform Credit Checks? · · Score: 1

irrelevant. while i agree that drug testing is silly in itself, i can see why an employer would want that information. yes, you could reasonably say that testing positive for drugs would be a reason for denying employment (drugs = illegal). as far as i can remember, having bad credit may make it impossible to buy a house, but it is not 'illegal.'

and, besides, as many other /.'ers have mentioned, there are situational reasons for a person's bad credit -- no one should have to explain their messy divorce to a prospective employer. absolutely NONE of anyone's business, unless you decide to tell them on your own terms.

  3. It seems to me .... on Where Should Space Exploration Go From Here? · · Score: 1

The US military budget is way over-bloated.

That said, wouldn't it make sense for the Defense Department and NASA to work together on building efficient and reliable space vehicles? I'm sure there is some collaboration between NASA and branches of the military (used to work for NASA, so I know at least they share military bases and the personell work well together) -- they may not have a common goal, but they share common technological needs. R&D results from the military would probably (and maybe already do, not sure) benefit NASA, and vice-versa.

I guess what I'm saying is -- we all know the military budget is not going to be reduced in favor of the Space Program (or any other program, for that matter). Why not share information between agencies, so at least some of the benefits (whatever those may be) we get from spending billions and billions of dollars on a massive and bloated military are extended to others who could also use the information/technology/whatever.

Wait, would this be an open source gov't??

And, also, I would absolutely be o.k. with a checkbox on my tax form to give money to NASA -- instead of my current option to give to the Demoplican party.

forget about listening to decent and thought-provoking music on commercial radio. the only new music info i get from radio is from NPR. they at least don't bow down to the whims of corporate music. lots of good segments on international music as well ...

and nevermind the fact that, in order to deploy SQL Server SP3 to XP clients running MSDE, you need to apply XP SP1. it makes patching things up all the more worse, especially when XP's service pack is buggy, at best.

i wouldn't normally bite on this kind of comment, but this is just ridiculous.

People forget the lesson of the man who died on the cross to preserve the American way of life.

i was unaware that jesus was a part of the American Revolution, fighting along-side the founding fathers in the struggle for freedom. was he crucified at valley forge? please don't be an asshole and bring religion into a discussion that CLEARLY has no place for it.
